Introduction of Totsuka fire department
Last update date July 12, 2024
Overview
Totsuka fire department's predecessor was established on December 1, 1939, at 116 Totsuka-cho, and dates back to the Tozuka Fire Department, Nishi-Tobe Fire Department, Kanagawa Prefecture. After that, it became the Hodogaya Fire Station Tozuka Branch Office on December 1, 1943, and on March 7, 1948, it became from the Hodogaya Fire Station Tozuka Branch Office to Yokohama City Totsuka Fire Station. In June of this year, the Taisho branch office leased a garage at the National Yokohama Hospital (now the National Yokohama Medical Center) and started operations.
On August 25, 1949, the new Totsuka fire department will start at the old government building (4140 Totsuka-cho) located about 70 meters from Totsuka Station. At that time, it was 32 staff members and 6 fire engines.
The government building was established at the current location in 1974, and it has reached this day. As of January 2023, Totsuka fire department has fire departments and five other fire branch offices: Taisho, Yoshida, Torigaoka, Higashitotsuka, and Fukaya, with about 200 staff members and 36 fire trucks (including 7 ambulances) protects the safety and security of Totsuka Ward, which has a population of about 282,000 and an area of 35.7 square kilometers (the largest in Yokohama City).
There are two JR stations in the jurisdiction of Totsuka fire department, and there are many high-rise buildings, so it is rare for a branch office. In addition, from 2012, large-scale decontamination vehicles that can respond to terrorist disasters and poisonous substances have been placed at the Torigaoka Fire Branch Office.
