Introduction of Totsuka fire department
Last Updated July 12, 2024
Overview
The predecessor of Totsuka fire department was established on December 1, 1939 at 116 Totsuka-cho, and dates back to the Tozuka Fire Branch Office (one fire engine and six members). After that, it became the Hodogaya Fire Station Tozuka Branch Office on December 1, 1943, and on March 7, 1948, it became the Hodogaya Fire Station Tozuka Fire Station in Yokohama City. In June of this year, the Taisho branch office leased the garage of the National Yokohama Hospital (currently the National Yokohama Medical Center) and started operations.
On August 25, 1949, the new Totsuka fire department will start at the old government building (4140 Totsuka-cho) about 70 meters from the current location from Totsuka Station. At that time, there were 32 staff members and 6 fire trucks.
The government building was established at the current location in 1974, and it has been to this day. As of January 2023, Totsuka fire department's fire-fighting capabilities consist of five fire-fighting branch offices, Taisho, Yoshida, Torigaoka, Higashitotsuka and Fukaya, with approximately 200 employees and 36 fire-fighting vehicles (including 7 ambulances), with a population of approximately 282,000 and an area of 35.7 square kilometers (the largest security in Yokohama City). Totsuka Ward).
There are two JR stations in the jurisdiction of Totsuka fire department and many high-rise buildings, so it is rare for a branch office to have a ladder fire truck. In addition, from 2012, large-scale decontamination vehicles that can respond to terrorist disasters and poisonous and deleterious disasters have been deployed at the Torigaoka Fire Branch Office.
