Midori Ward has a green coverage ratio of 41.4% (the ratio of green space to the area of the ward), the highest among the 18 wards of Yokohama (the latest survey in FY2014), making it an attractive ward for its rich nature. The Tsurumi River, Onda River, Umeda River, etc. flow through the ward, and rural scenery spreads around it. In addition, there are Shinji Citizen's Forest where the satoyama landscape, which is said to be the original scenery of Yokohama, as well as lush forest areas and parks such as Miho Citizen's Forest, Ueyama Fureai Forest, Prefectural Shikinomori Park, and Kitahassaku Park. You can see fireflies flying around, and you can also hear frog singing voices from paddy fields where rice grew lushly. While being in the metropolis of Yokohama, you can experience the rich natural environment. There are four stations in the ward: Kamoi, Nakayama, Tokaichiba and Nagatsuta on the JR Yokohama Line. At Nagatsuta Station, the Tokyu Denentoshi Line and Tokyu Children's Country Line are connected, making it a transportation node in the northwestern part of Yokohama City. On March 30, 2008, the Municipal Subway Green Line connecting Nakayama Station and Hiyoshi Station was opened, further improving the convenience of transportation. Midori fire department is located almost in the center of the east-west ward. Within the ward, there are four branch offices in Tokaichiba, Nagatsuta, Kamoi and Hakusan, where various fire trucks are located and about 170 staff members are engaged in fire and disaster prevention activities every day to protect the safety of residents.
