Overview
Asahi Ward is located in the western part of Yokohama City and is the headwaters of Katabira River and its tributaries. The hills have good residential areas and large-scale housing complex, with a population of about 240,000, the sixth largest population in the city.
The attraction of the ward is that it is blessed with a natural environment such as water and greenery. There are many parks and green spaces, such as the Yokohama Zoo (ZOORASIA), Children's Nature Park, Citizens' Forests, and Fureai Forests. It is characterized by many greenery and is popular amongKatabira River residents as a place to relax. In addition to historical sites related to Shigetada Hatakeyama during the Kamakura period, there are old houses and famous trees and Furuki, which are popular as symbols of the region that convey the history of Asahi Ward.
The area around Tsurugamine / Futamatagawa Station is positioned as a subcenter, and business and commercial facilities are being developed through redevelopment projects.
In addition to the main office in the ward, Asahi fire department has a branch office in Sachigaoka, Miyakooka, Minamihonjyuku, Wakabadai, Ichizawa and Imajuku fire departments, and 31 fire trucks and about 220 employees are involved in fire and disaster prevention operations in the ward.
