Plan for securing evacuation of Yokohama City Underground Shopping Center

Last update date April 1, 2022

Efforts to secure evacuation at underground malls and large-scale factories based on the Flood Control Law

Page about facilities for people requiring special attention

In recent years, typhoons and torrential rainfalls have caused flood damage to underground shopping malls in river basins in urban areas. In Yokohama, Typhoon No. 22 in 2004 caused massive inundation damage around Yokohama-sta.-nishiguchi. As the local flood control power is weakening due to a decrease in the number of members of the flood defense team, the Flood Control Law was revised in July 2013 with the aim of strengthening local flood control capabilities with the participation of various actors. Owners of underground malls, facilities for people requiring assistance, and large-scale factories, etc., have stipulated measures such as securing evacuation were stipulated. Therefore, in this corner, we introduce the manuals of the plan created by the owners or managers of each facility. It is necessary to make use of this corner, create a plan for securing evacuation as soon as possible, and to prepare for reduction and avoid inundation damage.

(*) The inundation potential area is an area where flooding is expected when a river is flooded due to planned rainfall for river maintenance.
