About Nanko Temporary Floating Pier
Background of installation
In the area around Yokohama Station, "Excite Yokohama 22" was formulated in December 2009 as a guideline for town development through public-private partnerships. At the same time, we aim to create an attractive hydrophilic space that takes advantage of rivers and the sea.
The Nanko Temporary Floating Pier was installed in Saiwai River in FY2011 to conduct initiatives and events in various fields such as disaster prevention, the environment, and revitalization of towns, and to utilize the water surface, a valuable resource around Yokohama Station.
Examples of Initiatives
At the floating pier, since its establishment in FY2011, verification of support activities such as material transportation using water routes in the event of a disaster caused by a large-scale earthquake, and disaster prevention activities such as water rescue drills as a countermeasure against water accidents caused by falling into rivers. Activities were conducted.
In addition, as part of our area management activities, we conducted clean-up kayaking, water quality and biological surveys, and conducted activities that lead to the revitalization of the environment, education, and town development.
