The Malayan Tapir is 2.2-2.5 meters long and weighs 250 to 350 kg, and is the largest among the Tapir family. It is the only four existing Tapir species that inhabits AsiaTapir. The fact that the two-tone color of the body is black and white is also a characteristic that is very different from the other three types.
They live alone in dense forests, bushes, and waterside grasslands, and feeds on leaves, grass, fruits, etc. When chased by foreign enemies, they flee into deep bushes and waters. The pregnancy period is between 390 and 407 days, and in the wild, children are born between April and May in the wild, and the child is said to live with the mother for at least 6 to 8 months.
Since Malayan Tapir was regarded as a subject of worship or hunting, a considerable number of people inhabited until the 1930s, but in recent years the habitat of forests has been cut down and rapidly. Currently, wild populations are estimated to be between 900 and 3,000.
