Introduction of Malayan Tapir

There are four types of Tapir in the world: Malayan Tapir in Southeast Asia and South American Tapir (Brazilian Tapir), Baird's Tapir and Mountain Tapir in Central and South America. Of these, Preservation and Research Center breeds Malayan Tapir, the only Tapir living in Asia.
The Kanazawa Zoo in Yokohama also breeds Baird's Tapir only in Japan.

Malayan Tapir is 2.2 to 2.5 meters long and weighs 250 to 350 kg, and is the largest among the Tapir members. It is the only Tapir that lives in Asia among the four existing species in Tapir. The fact that the body color is black and white is also a very different feature from the other three species.
They live alone in dense forests, bushes, and waterside grasslands, and feed on leaves, grass, fruits, etc. When chased by a foreign enemy, it escapes into deep bushes and water. The pregnancy period is 390 to 407 days, with children born in the wild from April to May, and children are said to live with their mothers for at least 6 to 8 months.
In the field, Malayan Tapir was a subject of worship and was not targeted for hunting, so until the 1930s, a considerable number of inhabitants lived there, but in recent years the habitat forest has been cut down and has declined rapidly. Currently, the population in the wild is estimated to be 900 to 3,000.
