Combined and split-flow
Last Updated May 13, 2024
There are two methods of sending sewage to the water reclamation center: a diversion type and a combined type.
Sewer system
The method of sending rainwater from rainfall and sewage from homes to the water reclamation center in separate pipelines is called "separate sewer system", and about 70% of the city's area is maintained in a separate flow system.
Rainwater can be drained into rivers and the sea without treatment, and only sewage is treated at a water reclamation center.

Combined sewer
The method of sending rainwater from rainfall and sewage from homes to the water reclamation center in one pipeline is called "merging sewer", and about 30% of the city's area is combined.
Since all sewage collected in the event of heavy rain cannot be treated at the water reclamation center, some of them are washed away by rivers and seas without being treated. For this reason, we are promoting improvement measures such as temporarily storing dirty water in the rainwater reservoir in the early stages of rainfall and treating it later.
