Can I use my home toilet in the event of a disaster?
Last update date April 1, 2024
In the case of apartment
Be sure to check the rules set by Residential Association and others regarding the use of toilets in the event of a disaster. If the rules have not been decided, decide the rules in advance.
(Example of usage rules)
- Check that there is no visible damage to the building and that there are no abnormalities in the manholes around the site.
- Run water in order from the dwelling units on the lower floor to check if sewage can be used.
- After checking all dwelling units, the toilet can be used.
In the case of a single-family house
Open the lid of the sewage masu in the residential land with a minus screwdriver, drain the water from the toilet, and check that the flowing water does not remain in the sewage basin. The confirmation work should be done by two or more people. If the drainage pipe in the house is off or the manhole on the surrounding road, do not use the toilet and use the portable toilet.
