I heard that Yokohama is the birthplace of Japanese street trees. Is that true?
Last Updated November 8, 2024
It was in 1867 that willows and pine street trees were planted in Basyamichi, Naka Ward. It is the birthplace of modern street trees.
To commemorate this, a monument to "Modern Road Tree Birthrate Shonochi" has been built on Basyamichi Square.
