I heard that Yokohama is the birthplace of Japanese street trees. Is that true?

It was in 1867 that a willow and pine trees were planted in Basyamichi, Naka Ward. It is the birthplace of modern street trees.
To commemorate this, a monument is being built on Basyamichi Square.
