Yokohama's Memory5 [Work of Tomi Goro Ozaki]
Yokohama's Memory Vol.5 is.
Here are some of the work of Tomi Goro Ozaki, which was created by the necessity of the times.
Due to its nature as an opening port, Yokohama at the end of the Tokugawa period and the early Meiji era, Yokohama was a receiving place for overseas information and a source of Japanese information. Was reported to Against this background, Tomi Goro Ozaki is a person who performed a distinctive publishing and sales activity in Noge, Yokohama. He created a picture map named "Gyoyosha Manju Elderly", and as a Shoshi Kinseido, published English guidebooks and textbooks called traffic goods, and also sold picture paper.
The picture map of Tomi Goro Ozaki, which recorded Yokohama at that time, is characterized by expressing the city as a cut-out drawing, while drawing around Noge and Honmoku. In the masterpiece "Shingu Yokohama Zensho MAP OF YOKOHAMA", it is written as "I Ginkajin" as proofreading and "Kobayashiya Ginji" is written as "Kobayashiya Ginji" as saleshiro. Both are Ginka Kishida, a pioneer of Meiji culture.
As a single print, in addition to picture maps, we publish Sogoroku, Yokohama Ukiyo-e, numbering, and namebooks. These materials left today speak eloquently about Yokohama's culture in the early Meiji era, such as the exterior of Yokohama and the activities of Yokohama merchants.
Although the letters of the alphabet can be seen in the picture map, Ozaki also publishes language books that are indispensable for the acceptance of foreign culture. Through Ozaki's guidebooks such as spelled letters, word collections, and short sentences, the people of Yokohama would have communicated with foreigners.
