March

21st : International Day of the Elimination of Humanity Discrimination

April

In 1992, the International Guide Dog Schools (now the International Guide Dog Federation, Headquarters U.K.) designated the last Wednesday of April was designated as International Guide Dog Day. The Federation has 84 guide dog training organizations in about 30 countries and holds events to deepen understanding of guide dogs on this day and on holidays before and after.

 1st : Human Rights Commissioner's Day
22nd : Day of Recovery and mourning of victims under the Leprosy Prevention Act
It was established in connection with the "Law Concerning Payment of Compensation for Hansen's Disease Sanatoriums" enforced on this day in 2001 (Heisei 13). Events for victims, memorial services and honor recovery are held in various places. There are still 15 Hansen's disease sanatoriums nationwide, and about 2,733 people (as of May 1, 2008) live.

23rd to 29th : Gender Equality Week

July

1st : Ainu Cultural Promotion Law Enforcement and Rehabilitation Protection Day
Effective on this day of 1997 (Heisei 9). Formally, the "Law Concerning the Promotion of Ainu Culture and the Dissemination and Enlightenment of Knowledge on Ainu traditions." With the enactment of this law, the previous "Hokkaido Old Civil Protection Law" has been abolished.

16th : Promulgation/enforcement of Special Law for Persons with Disabilities
It was promulgated on this day of 2003, and came into effect on the same day in 2004. People with gender identity disorder can now change their gender on family register after a family court trial.

14th : Resolution of the World Plan for Human Rights Education
It was formulated on this day of 2005 as a follow-up to the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education (1995-2004). The main focus is on the adoption of a revised action plan focusing on primary and secondary education.

※Elderly Health and Welfare Month
※Employment Support Month for Persons with Disabilities

The aim is to increase the momentum of employment of persons with disabilities and to support the professional independence of persons with disabilities.

8th : International Literacy Day

It was established with the aim of strengthening activities to increase literacy, as being able to read and write to all people is essential for eradication of poverty and realizing a human-like life. From 2003 to 2012, the "United Nations Decade of Literacy."

10th      : World Suicide Prevention Day
10th to 16th  : Suicide Prevention Week
19th      : Respect for the Aged Day
21st      : International Day of Peace
An anniversary of peace established by the United Nations. With this day a non-violence day, we are urging all countries and people to stop hostile acts day by day.
