About foster parents
Foster parents welcome children who cannot live in their parents' homes as members of their families and raise them in foster homes with warm affection.
In Yokohama City, we promote children in need of social care so that each and every one of them can live in a homey atmosphere.

About social care
The Children's Charter states, "All elementary school student is brought up at home with right affection, knowledge and skills, and elementary school student, who is not blessed with a family, has an alternative environment." Article 2 of the Child Welfare Law stipulates that "the national and local governments, together with the parents of elementary school student, are responsible for fostering elementary school student physically and mentally healthy."
The nursing environment system prepared by society is called social care, and the foster parent system is also a "child system" that is positioned as one of these social care systems.
About foster parent activities
For example
・We raise infants and elementary school students until their parents can raise them.
・We raise junior and senior high school students who cannot live at their parents until independence (18 years old or graduated from high school).
・We will raise baby/infant temporarily protected by children's guidance office for several days.
※During child care, living expenses, medical expenses and school expenses are paid according to the age of the child.

Q1. How long is the child entrusted?
When entrusting elementary school student to foster parents, the period varies depending on the circumstances of their parents, but there are long-term care (including marriage) and short-term care.
In the case of long-term care, until elementary school student reaches the age of 18, and in the case of short-term care, it can take several weeks to several years for the convenience of parents.
Q2. Can a single person or a same-sex couple become foster parents?
If you wish to have a special adoption, you will need to be certified by your couple.
If you are a foster parent, you will not be able to become a foster parent because you are a single person or a same-sex couple. Make sure that you meet the requirements for stability of life and whether you can properly raise your child, such as "Is it possible to maintain your child's livelihood and maintain your livelihood?" Judge after that.
Q3. Do you have an age limit for foster parents?
Since the child care period may be long, it is necessary to consider this in consideration.
In addition, in the case of foster parents, we believe that an unnatural age difference as a parent and child is desirable.
Q4. Are there any income restrictions?

Q5. Do you have any housing requirements?
There are no special requirements, but it is desirable to be able to provide a living space where children can live comfortably.
Depending on the age of the commissioned elementary school student, you may need to prepare a dedicated room.
Q6. How long does it take from application to certification?
It's about a year.
In the meantime, you will receive training and practical training, and acquire knowledge and attitude as a foster parent.
After an interview and investigation by the children's guidance office, the The Mayor of Yokohama will approve the certification by the foster parent subcommittee of the Yokohama City Child Welfare Council.
