“Food education at schools” in Yokohama City

1 Purpose of promoting food education

Based on the Basic Law on Shokuiku, the government aims to realize a society in which the people can cultivate a healthy mind and body throughout their lives and foster a rich humanity by strongly developing food education as a national movement. The Basic Plan for Shokuiku was formulated, and basic matters for comprehensively and systematically promoting measures for promoting Shokuiku were established for the five years from 2006.
In response to this, a food education promotion plan was formulated in Motoichi in September 2010. .
In response to these measures, food education at schools has been steadily progressing since 2006 in accordance with the "Food Education Promotion Plan" with the aim of cultivating healthy mind and body for children throughout their lives and fostering rich humanity. Has been advanced. Consequently, the overall achievement of dietary education targets has been steadily improving, and dietary habits of elementary school student students have been improving.
However, since the “breakfast eating rate” has been slightly decreasing, it is necessary to reconsider the importance of breakfast and promote awareness not only at school but also at home.

2 Food education initiatives

(1)Formulation of “Food Education Promotion Guidelines at Schools”

As mentioned above, City of Yokohama, Board of Education Secretariat has formulated a “food education promotion plan” and used it as a guide for each school to promote food education systematically.
As a result, the school has created a concrete plan tailored to the educational goals and guidance content of each school, and has been able to work on effective guidance related to each subject. In April 2011, we formulated a revised version of the “Food Education Promotion Plan at Schools” in line with the Yokohama City Shokuiku Promotion Plan (H22.9. Development) (plan from FY2013 to FY2017).
In addition, in March 2017, in accordance with the Second Yokohama City Shokuiku Promotion Plan formulated in the previous fiscal year, the basic philosophy of dietary education at schools was adopted as "elementary school student's Lifelong Healthy Dietary Lifestyles" to contribute to the promotion of mental and physical health and the formation of rich human beings."
The guidelines set three dietary education promotion goals and eight promotion themes, and set the direction of the measures (individual target image) and numerical targets for each theme.

(2)“Food Education Practice Promotion School”

For realization of "fostering healthy body" positioned as important point measure of Motoichi education promotion basic plan, each school "childcare promotion plan in school" and "general plan about food education" "food education promotion in school" We promote food education based on "Guidelines".
In order to promote "food education according to the actual situation of schools", the Board of Education has designated a food education practice promotion school from 2011, and has transmitted the practice of food education and its results for two years, We have presented a food education promotion model for each school.
We have designated promotion schools for the purpose of expanding the potential of food education at schools and transmitting initiatives that will be helpful in promoting food education according to the actual situation of schools at all municipal schools.
