Effects on the fetus during pregnancy

During pregnancy

When a mom (pregnant woman) smokes during pregnancy, it has various effects on the baby in the stomach. Of course, it has an effect on my mom.


Effects on babies

  • Low birth weight infants (less than 2500g) are more likely to be born.
  • Congenital abnormalities (lip / palate, congenital heart disease, etc.) are more likely to occur.

Impact on Moms

  • The risk of pregnancy and delivery complications increases.
  • The risk of miscarriage and premature birth increases.
  • The risk of placenta early detachment, preposition placenta, etc. increases.

Impact on Children

Tobacco smoke contains more than 200 harmful substances. When parents and adults around you smoke, not only those who smoke, but also children are more susceptible to illness.

Effects on children from statistics

When you smoke, a harmful substance called nicotine is taken into your body. Nicotine causes increased heart rate, contraction of peripheral vasculars, and increased blood pressure, damaging blood vessels. This nicotine becomes a substance called cotinine in the body and is excreted from urine.

The graph below shows how much this cochinin is coming from the child's urine. If the number of children in households who do not smoke is 1, it indicates how many times more households smoke. Cochininine doesn't come out unless you are affected by cigarette smoke. In other words, the high value indicates that it is affected by the smoke of cigarettes smoked by adults around children (passive smoking).
