Effects on the fetus during pregnancy
If a mom (pregnant woman) smokes during pregnancy, it can have various effects on the baby in the stomach. Of course, it also has an effect on mom himself.
Effects on babies
- Low birth weight infants (less than 2500g) are more likely to be born.
- Congenital abnormalities (lip and palate, congenital heart disease, etc.) are more likely to occur.
Impact on mom
- Increases the risk of pregnancy and delivery complications.
- Increases the risk of miscarriage and premature birth.

Impact on children

According to statistics, the impact on children
When you smoke, a harmful substance called nicotine is taken into your body. Nicotine increases heart rate, contract peripheral vascular contract, increases blood pressure, and damages blood vessels. This nicotine becomes a substance called cotinin in the body and is excreted from urine.
The graph below measures how much this cotinine comes out of the child's urine. If the number of children in a household that does not smoke, it indicates how many times more cigarettes smoke. Cotinine does not come out unless it is affected by cigarette smoke. In other words, the high value indicates that it is affected by the smoke of tobacco smoked by adults around the child (passive smoking).
