Report of West Nile virus test results by day of mosquito collection
West Nile fever is prevalent in the United States, with 4,156 people (284), 9,862 (264), 2,539 (100), and 3,000 (119). In Japan, a man in his 30s who returned from the United States in September 2005 was diagnosed with West Nile fever for the first time in Japan. The patient is believed to have been infected before returning home. This virus is transmitted between [birds and mosquitoes ⇒ humans], but humans do not become the source of infection.
Yokohama City has locality such as harbors and U.S. military facilities related to foreign countries, and has been conducting a surveillance project for mosquitoes and birds (crows) in the city since 2003. . A trap (trap) that regularly captures mosquitoes will be installed in parks in the city, and Yokohama City Inst. of Health will check the presence or absence of West Nile virus (WNV) genes using the PCR method.
We will inform you of the test results of the West Nile virus test (PCR method) for mosquitoes collected in Yokohama City.

Report of West Nile virus test results of crows, etc.
This column will inform you of the results of the West Nile virus test (PCR method) conducted at Yokohama City Inst. of Health for crows etc. who died in Yokohama City.
* Until July 5, 2006, two Naka Ward birds (June 14), one Seya Ward (June 30), and one Kanazawa Ward (July 5), all four genes were negative.
* In fiscal 2005, three pigeons (June 8: exceptionally handled) and one crow (June 17) were brought in, and one crow (June 17) died after being protected in Nogeyama Zoo were brought in. The West Nile virus test (PCR method) was all negative.
* The West Nile virus test (PCR method) of one crow carcass carried into Yokohama City Inst. of Health on June 28, 2004 is negative.
