It was founded in 1981 to commemorate the International Year of Disabled Persons in 1981.
As of March 31, 2007, there was a fund of approximately 1.2 billion yen due to donations from individuals, groups, companies, etc., as well as subsidies from Yokohama City.
This fund has been used as a "Yokohama Contact Grant" of the Yokohama City National Council of Social Welfare since 2003 to conduct surveys, research, training, sports, recreation, and exchange circles to promote social participation of persons with disabilities. Subsidies.

Every year from December 3 to December 9 is "Disabled Persons Week".

Due to the revision of the Basic Law for Persons with Disabilities in 2004, one week from December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, to December 9, when the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Has been designated as "Disability Week".
In Yokohama City, with the aim of realizing a society where people with disabilities can live a safe life in the community, we are working on dissemination and awareness-raising activities through training and various public relations activities so that correct understanding and awareness of disabilities and diseases can spread. .
