The great man of Kanazawa
Last update date November 6, 2020
Shintaro Ohashi (born 1863)
Born in the Meiji era, Shintaro Ohashi was the president of a large book and magazine company.
He was a very famous person who helped more than 50 companies, including steel companies, insurance companies, and candy factories, helped them grow larger, and also played an active part in the political world, such as members of the House of Representatives.
I was born in Nagaoka (now Niigata) and I have lived in Tokyo all the time.
Shintaro built a villa next to Shomyoji Temple in the Meiji era, because he liked Kanazawa, where the scenery is beautiful. After that, I bought Kanazawa land and had a maximum of 13 Tokyo Dome around Kanazawa Bunko Station.
In addition, Shintaro's third son ran a poultry farm (a place to keep chickens and lay eggs) near Shomeiji Temple.
(1)Shintaro made a lot of donations to repair Shomei-ji Temple, which was destroyed by a large earthquake (Great Kanto Earthquake) in the Taisho era. The bell building of Shomeiji Temple = the bell tower was donated by Shintaro's wife.
(2)Kanagawa Prefecture has prepared 100,000 yen to fix Kanazawabunko, which was broken by the Great Kanto Earthquake. Half of this, 50,000 yen, was donated by Shintaro. It was a large amount of money that would be hundreds of millions in the value of current money.
(3)In 1935, a building called "Octagonal-do" was built on the top of the mountain behind Shomei-ji Temple, and on the surrounding mountains, 100 Kanzeon Bodhisattvas were placed on the mountains around it to create a prayer course. The Bodhisattva still remains.
