Town development that makes use of history

"Machikado Museum" is nine places that have shops along the old Tokaido for a long time. With the goodwill and cooperation of each director, rare historical buildings and stores, the history accumulated in Hodogaya, tools and materials that tell the story of life and culture are displayed in a corner of the store.
This project is being implemented as part of Hodogaya Ward's "town development utilizing history" and is one of the policies set out in the "History Town Basic Concept" formulated in March 2007. We are working with the cooperation of local residents and visitors to create a town where they can enjoy walking around."
Promisses to visit the town corner museum
・The "Machikado Museum" is operated with the goodwill of the director. Please observe the manners and observe.
・The opening date and hours of each town corner museum are subject to change. Please note that it is different from the business days and hours of the store are different.
・Depending on the director's convenience, explanations may not be possible. In addition, we do not rent out toilets.
Hirotaya
It was founded in 1922 as Konya Koya, a textile printing shop along the Katabira River. Tools for the care of kimono, "Yunoshigama" and "Shinshi" are on display. In addition, 80-year-old registers are also active.

I would be glad if you could see the beauty of kimono and the tools that support the beauty of kimono behind the scenes, and tell many people about the splendor of kimono.

Kawafurudani Stone Store
It is a long-established stone shop that has been running for more than teenagers. In the past, Ishiya used blacksmith every morning to make tools such as "mi", "bisha", and "small tapping" every morning according to the work of the day. "Fuigo", which was used as a tool to adjust the thermal power at that time, is also on display.

In the past, Ishiya had specialty in the fields of soft stones, hard stones, machiishi, sculpture, etc., and went to work early in the morning to work in line with their work. Now, tools and machines have developed and the work of Ishiya has also changed, but I sometimes miss the old days.

It was founded as a printing shop before the war and had a shop along the old Tokaido near Hodogaya Station, but it moved to this area with the widening of Loop Route 1. Even today, we print using old-fashioned type and letterpress printing machine.

At present, printing using type is rare, but recently it seems that the appeal of type has been re-recognized among young people. Through the “Machikado Museum”, we hope that the appeal of print will spread even a little.

Kiku pharmacy
In response to the war, we have been operating locally since 1948. In the past, this area was the heart of Hodogaya Ward, where many public facilities were gathered. Large "milk bowls", "suri sticks", and "drive medicine balance", etc., which were used for drug formulation in the past, are on display.

I've lived here since I was little, and I've been watching the transition of this city. I would be glad if you could discover the calm goodness of this city while visiting the "Machikado Museum".
Kuwana-ya soba
It is a soba restaurant that lasts for four generations in this area. For a long time, the director has been involved in Hodogaya's "Town Development Utilizing History". The shop commissioned a carpenter who worked on the inn of the Fukagawa Edo Museum to recreate the Edo period buildings and has a nostalgic atmosphere.
Many Ukiyo-e and historical materials related to Hodogaya-juku are on display.

We hope that you will be able to communicate the history and charm of the town of Hodogaya through the "Machikado Museum" and be interested in the town of Hodogaya even a little. I would like to expand the circle of people who think of Hodogaya.
Hatago Honkinkoya Site (stamp installation only)
In the Edo period, Hon Kaneko-ya prospered as a Hatago. The current building, rebuilt in 1869, also retains the remnants of Hatago along the Tokaido. On the premises, there is a full-fledged Japanese garden (publicly closed), and there are stones that are said to have rested when Emperor Taisho absurdly traveled.

※Unlike other museums, it is a house where the director is living. The tour is limited to the exterior of the building, and the interior of the building are not open to the public.

Until about 20 years ago, many similar buildings remained in the neighborhood, but now it has become one of the few historic buildings. I want to pass on the charm of an old-fashioned building made of wood and soil to the next generation.
【NEW】 Uohira (stamp installation only)
It is a fish shop that has been around since the 1930s. After the first store owner set up a store in Tsuneiwa-cho, Naka-ku, moved near Jugenji Temple after the war, and now has a shop in Kariba-cho.

【NEW】 Hokotate Shoten (Poko Trampoline) (stamp installation only)
It is a store located just over Gonta-zaka. In addition to the old liquor store, a trampoline facility was also rebuilt. Mount Fuji seen from behind the scenes is left in many Ukiyo-e paintings depicting Hodogaya.

Confectionery Kuriyama
We set up a shop in Sakaigi shopping street near the border between Musashi and Sagami countries (Sakaigi), and sells the middle with the motif of Sakaigi Jizo-son. Various Japanese confectionery formwork and branded seals are on display.
