What is Yokohama City University?
Yokohama City University (City University) is a comprehensive university that works with the international city of Yokohama. Yokohama Commercial Code School was opened in 1882 (Meiji 15) to develop human resources who have acquired Western-style commercial skills in Yokohama, which has developed as a center of trade in Japan since its opening of the country. City University was founded in 1928 (Showa 3) by the establishment of the Yokohama Municipal College of Commerce (Y), which developed from the Yokohama Commercial Code School. Since then, we have produced a large number of human resources who are active at the forefront of various fields, including trade, finance, services, and government offices, through open, international, and enterprising academic culture and practical education.
Another starting point of City University is Juzen Hospital, which opened on Mt. Noge as a hospital for English-American medicine that can be used by residents in 1874 (Meiji 7), and then established in 1944 (Showa 19). The Municipal College of Medicine is connected to two hospitals and medical schools affiliated with City University. Shidai-Igakubu trains doctors as the only medical school of national and public universities in the prefecture, and established a four-year nursing department in 2005 (Heisei 17), contributing to medical care in the city.
In April 2005, City University became Yokohama City University, a public university corporation, and has made a new start.
