What is Yokohama City University?
Yokohama City University (City University) is a comprehensive university that celebrates its 90th anniversary with Yokohama International City. The Yokohama Commercial Code School was opened in 1882 (Meiji 15) to develop human resources who have acquired Western-style commercial skills in Yokohama, which has developed as a trading center of Japan since its opening. City University is based on the establishment of Yokohama Commercial College (Y) (1928 (Showa 3)), which developed from Yokohama Commercial Code School. Since then, we have produced a large number of human resources who are active in the front lines of various fields, including trade, finance, services, and government offices, through open, international, and enterprising academic style and practical education.
Another starting point of City University was the Juzen Hospital, which opened on Mt. Noge as a hospital for English and American medicine that can be used by residents, and then Yokohama Municipal Medical College was established in 1944 (Showa 19). Medical College is connected to two hospitals and medical schools attached to City University. Shidai-Igakubu trains doctors as the only national and public universities in the prefecture, trains doctors and established a four-year nursing department in 2005 (Heisei 17), contributing to medical care in the city.
In April 2005, City University became a "public university corporation Yokohama City University" in accordance with the Local Independent Administrative Agency Act.
