Agenda item 1: About the minutes (draft) of the 43rd Yokohama City Public University Corporation Evaluation Committee

  • The secretariat explained the minutes of the 43rd Yokohama City Public University Corporation Evaluation Committee Meeting (draft) and obtained approval.

Agenda item 2: Changes in the Medium-Term Plan

  • The Secretariat explained Document 2 “Articles 25 and 26 of the Local Independent Administrative Agency Act” regarding the change procedure.
  • The corporation explained Document 3 “Changes in the Medium-Term Plan (draft)”.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman You explained the changes. Do you have any opinions on this proposed change?
  • Mr. Kishi: At the end of the title of item (3), there is [Community Contribution], but I don't think there is such a description in (1). Is it particularly meaningful? Should we think in the same way as [local contribution] and [international] in "Solving urban issues" in (2)?
  • [Corporate] 【】 (1) is written in this way because it spans all graduate schools. (2) is both regional contribution and internationalization, and (3) is only regional contribution.
  • Committee member Arigawa Last time, I mentioned how to write quantitative at the atomic molecular level, so I think this time it was called protein. The expression of protein, etc., gives a sudden impression. Proteins are very important substances in life phenomena, and various types of proteins are related to life phenomena, but in the plan, it is too specific to describe them as structures such as proteins. I think it would be more appropriate to take a broader view of the structure of life-related substances. I would like to ask Mr. Kirino's opinion because it is related to the field of biomedical science.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman Is the term structural biology a commonly used word?
  • Committee member Arigawa To use it.
  • [Corporate] This expression was made because the structure and function of proteins are what we are focusing on in our research. Since it does not mean that only proteins are used, it is expressed as proteins. Should we be a basic molecule of life? What kind of expression is good?
  • Committee member Kirino What about biopolymers?
  • Committee member Arigawa Biopolymers are often used in a broad sense. The substances treated as proteins are limited.
  • Committee member Kirino An expression that includes the whole is better. When it becomes necessary to do lipids in the future, nucleic acids will not be used.
  • Committee member Arigawa I don't think it's going to happen.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman Is structural biology not limited to structures such as proteins?
  • Committee member Kirino The structure and function are now heading for that part.
  • [Secretariat] I don't think there is a problem by focusing on biopolymers. I would like to do that again. Is it okay for corporations to do that?
  • [Corporate] There is no problem.
  • [Secretariat] A biopolymer is an expression that encompasses everything. I can't do it.
  • [Corporate] It is all included in biopolymers.
  • [Kirino] These two are protein and nucleic acid.
  • [Corporate] The rest is lipids, but it is considered to be contained in biopolymers.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman In terms of expression, is it OK for structural biology to study the structure of biopolymers?
  • Committee member Arigawa Is it necessary to enter the expression of function? Since the function is thought to be due to the structure, there is also an idea that if the structure is understood, the function is not necessary for it. It is not good to be too specific, so I think it would be good to make use of structural biology.
  • [Secretariat] If it is an expression of biopolymer, it can be understood including functions.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman The expression is "based on structural biology that studies the structure of biopolymers." I would like you to make some corrections and leave the details to the chairperson. Do you have any other opinions? As a statutory procedure, I would like to compile a written opinion as a committee on changes to this plan. We submit statement of position to the mayor based on discussion, revision mentioned earlier.

Agenda item 3: Others

  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman That's all for the agenda we were planning today, but if there is no other, I would like to move on to the explanation of the future schedule.
  • The secretariat confirms the schedule for the future.
  • Mr. Kawamura, Chairman If there is no particular opinion, the 44th Yokohama City Public University Corporation Evaluation Committee will be completed.
