Through the operation of 13 international exchange lounges in the city, we are promoting the development of a town where Japanese and foreigners can easily live together and work.

In Yokohama City, toward the realization of the "Yokohama City International Strategy" formulated in February 2016, one of the priority initiatives of the strategy, "Realization of a creative society through multicultural coexistence" We devised "Yokohama-shi multicultural symbiosis town development guideline" in March, 2017 to do so.

We established "Yokohama International Town Development Promotion Committee" consisting of representatives of citizens, private businesses, and public interest groups in 2007.

Activities of civic groups and NPOs related to "promotion of mutual understanding between Japanese and foreigners", "support for living foreigners", "promotion of local Japanese language education", and "promotion of active foreign residents". We carry out support.

In order to measure user satisfaction and living satisfaction of international exchange lounges, etc., and to use them as part of a new evaluation index for multicultural coexistence measures, the International Exchange Lounge and Yokohama International Association (YOKE). Was implemented.

In Yokohama City, we provide living information and consultation for foreigners living in the city in multiple languages, hold Japanese language classes, dispatch interpreter volunteers, exchange activities with Japanese people, etc. We have set up a lounge.
The operation is carried out by social movement groups, NPOs, public interest incorporated foundations, etc., and many citizen volunteers cooperate.

The Yokohama International Association (YOKE) is engaged in a business to support foreigners living in the city.
