[Interview] We asked you about your thoughts on the "Kamiseya Elementary School Regional Flower Festival".
At elementary and junior high schools in Seya Ward, various efforts are being made to foster momentum for elementary school studenｔ students and local people around the school. From these efforts, we interviewed Keiko Kobayashi, principal of Yokohama City Kamiseya Elementary School, about the "Flower Festival" held at Kamiseya Elementary School on November 25, 2023.

Could you tell me how you held the Flower Festival?

In the past, the courtyard of Kamiseya Elementary School was a "place that can only be entered with teachers" when conducting science experiments. However, after last year's sixth grader (currently a first-year junior high school student) wanted to make the courtyard a more wonderful place, he maintained the courtyard and then participated in the open garden, which is an effort by Seya Ward.
The current sixth grader took over it and worked on caring for the courtyard and watering in the summer for the open garden held in May.
Also, after the open garden, try dried flowers to preserve the beauty of summer flowers, and participate in the “Yokohama Rose Festival” held at other schools as venues. We have been working on it, such as studying whether it will lead to joy.
After that, among the 6th grade children, the desire to `` convey the charm and beauty of Kamiseya small flowers '' increased, and the school's own sixth grader targeting all schools elementary school studenｔ and the community We planned this flower festival to create.
What was the state of elementary school studenｔ for the Flower Festival?
Through the spring open garden, children learned that it is important to advertise themselves in order to attract many customers to come.
Therefore, for the November Flower Festival, various ideas came out from elementary school studenｔ and others, including "I want to put an invitation on the school homepage," "I want to write a letter to parents," "I want to post posters on local bulletin boards," and "I would like to invite The Mayor of Yokohama and others who came to visit the school."
In addition, we felt enthusiasm of children, and local one took up on homepage of association of northern Seya town. elementary school studenｔ also carried out PR activities at the Shine Festival held in front of Seya Station.
As a result, more than 150 customers came on the day of the event. I think this has increased the sense of self-usefulness of elementary school studenｔ.
What are your thoughts on GREEN × EXPO 2027?
Actually, I have been working as a teacher at three elementary schools in Seya Ward for 19 years. This rich nature-rich area of Kamiseya is a place where children of the time have a deep passion for growing up. About 10 years after the land of Kamiseya was returned, at that time, I thought together with the children in charge thought about how to use the land of Kamiseya during social studies. For children, it is "My town, hometown."
GREEN x EXPO 2027 and beyond are future stories, and what will be done will become clear in the future. At this time, when a big event is held in our proud city, children in elementary school as elementary school studenｔ would like the elementary school studenｔ and others to enjoy it if the town is transforming into a better place.
We hope to create opportunities for elementary school studenｔ and others to think about the future of the city by Seya Ward, such as cherry tree grafting events at elementary schools and open gardens, as well as painting contests sponsored by the Yokohama Hana Expo Liaison Council.
