About baby/infant botulism caused by honey
baby/infant under one year old may suffer from baby/infant botulism by eating honey.
Honey is a high risk food for baby/infant under one year old.
Clostridium botulinum is resistant to heat and does not die in normal heating or cooking.
Don't give baby/infant under one year of age food such as honey and beverages and sweets.
In general, honey is not heat-treated before packaging, so botulinum bacteria may be mixed.
In addition, the heat resistance of Clostridium botulinum (spores) is said to be 4 minutes at 120 degrees and does not die by normal heating or cooking.
For more information, see the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website Honey is given after one year of age (outside site).
