About baby/infant botulism caused by honey
baby/infant younger than one year may suffer from baby/infant botulism by eating honey.
Honey is a food that is at high risk for baby/infant under one year old.
Clostridium botulinum is heat-resistant, so it does not die with normal heating or cooking.
Do not give food such as honey or beverages and sweets containing honey to baby/infant under one year old.
In general, honey is not heat-treated before packaging, so it may contain botulinum bacteria.
In addition, the heat resistance of Clostridium botulinum (spores) is said to be 4 minutes at 120 degrees for 4 minutes, and does not die by normal heating and cooking.
