The sewer system in Midori Ward is a separate system that separates sewage and rainwater.
There are two types of sewage systems: a diverted type in which sewage and rainwater flow through separate sewer pipes, and a combined type in which one sewer pipe flows. All in Midori Ward are split-flow type.
In the diversion type, sewage is treated at the water reclamation center before being drained into the river, and rainwater is drained directly to the river.
Do not drain oil or kitchen garbage into the sewage
70% of the dirt flowing into Tokyo Bay is wastewater from households.
In the case of Yokohama City, wastewater from homes is cleaned at the water reclamation center and then returned to the sea and rivers. Therefore, if we can reduce the dirt of domestic wastewater with our little care, we will protect the natural environment, reduce the burden on the water reclamation center, and save energy and expenses.
- Draining oil can cause clogging of household drainage pipes and sewer pipes.
When throwing away oil, use a commercially available coagulant or put it in a container containing old newspapers and used cloth, stop your mouth and throw it away. - Put a drain bag or old stocking on the garbage collection so that fine garbage does not flow into the drain pipe.
- Use kitchen detergents according to the standard usage shown.
Don't throw trash into the road gutter
There are two types of sewage systems: a diverted type in which sewage and rainwater flow through separate sewer pipes, and a combined type in which one sewer pipe flows. All in Midori Ward are diverted.
Rainwater pipe water flows directly to the river, so do not throw garbage into rainwater masu or gutters beside the road. Dirty water and garbage that have flowed into the rainwater masu also flows out into rivers and the sea.
In addition, clogging of rainwater masu can cause water to overflow on the road during heavy rain.
Maintenance of sewerage and operation and management of sewerage facilities costs a lot of money.
The sewerage usage fee paid by you is used to operate and manage sewerage facilities.
However, sewerage usage fees are allocated to expenses for treating sewage such as domestic wastewater. The cost of treating rainwater is covered by general taxes.
