Last Updated October 4, 2018

Flow of removal of abandoned vehicles

A car that is left on the edge of the road or beside the park and whose owner cannot be found.
There are also malicious cases such as removing the number or cutting the car number. Such abandoned cars not only impair the aesthetics of the city, but also hinder the passage of people and cars, sometimes ignited, and cause various problems in the local community.

About car left on roads managed by city, we investigate in Public Works Office and confirm fact based on "the regulations about prevention of outbreak such as Yokohama-shi abandoned car and sinking ship and appropriate processing". Check the number, body number, damage status, etc., make a record, and attach a warning letter (yellow card) at the same time.

In addition, the local police confirm ownership, issue removal recommendations and removal orders as necessary, and promote voluntary removal. However, if the owner is not identified as a result of the investigation, the Waste Management Committee (held by the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau) removes and disposes of vehicles that are determined to be waste.

Initiatives in Kohoku Ward

In order to take full-scale measures such as temporary movement of abandoned vehicles that may spread fire due to traffic obstacles or arson, we have established the Kohoku Ward Abandoned Vehicle Countermeasures Liaison Council.
A "temporary movement" system prior to the "waste certification" of abandoned cars according to the conventional regulations has been proposed, and vehicles that may spread to houses due to traffic obstacles or arson are selected once a month at a monthly meeting, We strive to move temporarily.
