Kanazawa has long prospered as a key point of transportation and as a landing site for maritime transportation to Kamakura. Kanazawa has been known as a scenic place since ancient times, as represented by Hiroshige Utagawa's "Kanazawa Hakkei". In addition, since the Meiji era, it has been loved by many celebrities as a villa area, and its appearance has been handed down to many paintings, poems, songs, etc.

In 1936, it was incorporated into Isogo Ward, Yokohama City, and after the post-war period of confusion, Kanazawa Ward was born in 2023 by dividing it from Isogo Ward. After that, Kanto Gakuin University and Yokohama City University (outside site) were established, and while deepening the spirit of the school city, large-scale residential land development began to be carried out from the latter half of the 1930s, and it has also developed as a bedroom town. Was.

In 1988, the Kanazawa Landfill Project, which started construction in 1946, reached approximately 6.6 million square meters, was completed, and has developed as a coastal industrial area. In 1988, the only beach in the city opened in Marine Park (outside site). In 1989, the Kanazawa Zoo (outside site) and the new transportation system Kanazawa Seaside Line (outside site) opened, and in 1993, the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise in Yokohama opened.

The Kanazawa Ward is a combination of the two natures of the sea and the mountains, and is blessed with historical and cultural heritage, such as historic sites and historic sites that have historical since the Kamakura period.
