World Heritage candidate Shomeiji Temple
Last Updated March 14, 2019
Yokohama City, together with Kanagawa Prefecture, Kamakura City, and Zushi City, we have been preparing for the registration of a World Heritage Site "Kamakura, an ancient capital of samurai". Following the very disappointing result, the four prefectures and cities and the country decided to withdraw the recommendation and aim for a re-recommendation.
This recommendation may have caused great surprise and disappointment for the people who have been working hard to prepare for World Heritage registration for many years and the inhabitants of the ward who have gained their understanding and cooperation. I think
However, Shomei-ji Temple and Choinagiri-dori are still valuable historical assets. In addition, Kanazawa Ward has many valuable historical assets, not limited to Shomei-ji Temple and Choinagiri-dori Street. We will continue to work in Kanazawa Ward to ensure that precious historical assets will be preserved for future generations and to increase the pride of the residents and their attachment to Kanazawa Ward.
