Transference and enrollment procedures for elementary and junior high schools

Procedure for moving

※Even if you move, if the school district does not change, you only need to notify us of your relocation.

When the school district (school) changes due to moving within the ward

  1. You will be notified of the transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a student registration certificate / Textbook Salary Certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (To prepare for acceptance)
  2. After moving, we will notify the Kanagawa Ward Office of the change in Address. Please present your student registration certificate / Textbook salary certificate.
  3. You will receive an admission letter from the ward office.
  4. Bring your student registration certificate, subject book salary certificate, and admission notice to the transference school, and complete the admission procedure.

※ If you move during the spring break, you will need to show a certificate of completion (such as a notice sheet that shows that you have completed the third semester) or a diploma in addition to the above two points.

When the school district (school) changes due to moving from Kanagawa Ward to another ward in the city

  1. You will be notified of the transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a student registration certificate / Textbook Salary Certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (To prepare for acceptance)
  2. When you report the change of Address to the ward office in the New Address area after moving is completed (not required to visit Kanagawa Ward), please present your student registration certificate / Textbook salary certificate.
  3. You will receive an admission letter from the ward office.
  4. Bring your student registration certificate, subject book salary certificate, and admission notice to the transference school, and complete the admission procedure.

When moving out of Yokohama city, or moving from outside the city

  1. You will be notified of the transfer to the school you are currently attending and receive a student registration certificate / Textbook Salary Certificate. Please contact the new school in advance by telephone. (To prepare for acceptance)
  2. Please notify the government office in your Address area where you live and receive a transfer certificate. There is no school procedures at the government office in Address where you move out.
    After moving, you will be notified of the transfer at the municipalities in the new Address area. At that time, please show your transference certificate and student registration certificate / subject book salary certificate.
  3. If you have been transferred, please bring your Basic Resident Register card.
    Depending on the municipality, school-related procedures may be carried out to the Board of Education. Please check with the government office in New Address for details such as reception desks. (In the case of Yokohama City, this will be done at the Family Registry Division of the ward office.)
  4. You will receive a letter of admission at the New Address government office.
  5. Bring your student registration certificate, subject book salary certificate, and admission notice to the transference school, and complete the admission procedure.

If you want to continue to go to the same school even after the school district changes, or if you want to go to a school different from the designated school

A separate procedure is required. For more information, please contact the Family Registry Division Student Affairs Section.

When enrolling in a national, private, or prefectural elementary or junior high school

Notification of attending school outside the area is required.
Please bring your letter of consent issued by the principal of the school you are enrolled in. (The notification form is available at the counter.)

In the case of new first-year students (notification by mail)

elementary school student students who are registered as residents of Kanagawa Ward are enrolled in private, national or prefectural elementary and junior high schools.
(International schools and various schools are not eligible.)

・Original documents (notice of acceptance), such as an admission permit issued by the school you plan to attend, such as an admission permit issued by the school you plan to attend.
Please send the above two documents to the Family Registry Division Registration Section, Kanagawa Ward Office, by simple registered mail or specified records.

Transference from other than Kanagawa Ward

Please notify us when you transfer to Address.
At that time, please bring a proof (admission consent form, copy of student handbook, etc.) indicating that you are enrolled in national, private, or prefectural elementary or junior high school.

Notification of attendance at school

If you enter elementary or junior high school in the next year, you will be notified of the following.

Admission to elementary school

We will send admission to municipal school to parents around October 15 of the previous year. The notice shows the date and time of the school you are enrolled in, physical checkup. Elementary school will inform you about the admission briefing session at the time of physical checkup.

Admission to junior high school

Around January 20 of that year (6th grade elementary school), we will send admission to municipal school to parents. About admission briefing session, there is news from elementary school where child is enrolled
