In Japan, about 5.23 million tons of food that is still eaten but discarded, so-called “food loss,” is released annually (estimated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in FY2021). When converted to per capita, "one bowl of food" is thrown away every day.
In order to reduce food loss as much as possible, Totsuka Ward Environmental Business Promotion Committee members and Totsuka Ward Consumer Life Promotion Officers devised Totsuka Ward food loss reduction recipes.
It is necessary to reduce food loss from the effective use of important resources and consideration of environmental impact.
