About abandoned cars
Last Updated January 1, 2022
Abandoned vehicles (including motorcycles over 125cc)
A car that is left on the edge of the road or beside the park and whose owner cannot be found.
There are also malicious cases such as removing the number or cutting the car number. Such abandoned cars not only impair the aesthetics of the city, but also hinder the passage of people and cars, sometimes ignited, and cause various problems in the local community.
Based on the "Regulations on Prevention of Occurrence and Proper Treatment of Yokohama City Abandoned Vehicles and Sinking Ships" (enforced in October 1991), the Public Works Office will investigate and confirm the facts. Check the number, body number, damage status, etc., make a record, and attach a warning letter (yellow card) at the same time.
In addition, the local police investigates the owner, issues removal recommendations and removal orders as necessary, and encourages them to voluntarily remove them. However, as a result of the survey, vehicles whose owners are unknown are removed and disposed of by the Waste Judgment Committee (held by the Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau beautification promotion, etc.) in the city if the waste is determined to be waste.
