Minami Ward Reading Activity Promotion Goals

We revised the second Minami Ward reading activity promotion target!
In response to the newly formulated "Second Yokohama Citizen's Reading Activity Promotion Target" in fiscal 2019, Minami Ward also revised its "First Minami Ward Reading Activity Promotion Target".
We made leaflet which combined contents of the second goal and map which listed introduction, place such as book corners in ward.
The leaflets for promoting Minami Ward's reading activities will be distributed at ward offices, libraries, and other ward-owned facilities (district centers, community houses, etc.).

Second Minami Ward Reading Activity Promotion Target
Books give people the vitality to live and enrich people's hearts.
It enhances the culture and expressiveness that we need to live, and expands the wings of imagination.
Reading activities are very valuable for everyone, from children to adults, to get acquainted with each other and deepen exchanges.
We will promote reading activities in cooperation with local people and various facilities in order to further deepen exchanges among residents of the city and to blow a "warm wind" to Minami Ward.
We deepen connection between inhabitants of a ward and facility so that we can feel one goal more closely.
There are many reading-related facilities in the ward, including the Minami Library.
Inhabitants of a ward come in close contact with book, and each facility cooperates and works on environmental maintenance so that they can get close to reading.
Major Initiatives
1 Improvement of the Environment in Minami Library
Minami Library, which plays a central role in reading activities, aims to create a library that makes it easier to use as an information base in Minami Ward.
2 Public relations activities in cooperation with each facility
We make reading map which is easy to use and work on public relations activity that can use each reading-related facility in ward more closely.
3. Establishment of a reading activity promotion liaison meeting
We constitute reading activity promotion liaison meeting with person in charge of ward office, library, school, inhabitant of a ward use facility and hold liaison meeting regularly for information sharing and perform cooperation approach.
4 Support for volunteers who are responsible for reading activities
Ward office and library support activity and learning of reading activity volunteer in ward including story-telling, book repair.
Goal 2 We will provide opportunities for residents of all generations, from infants to the elderly, to come into contact with books.
In order for adults to get acquainted with books, it is important to meet childhood books.
And in order for children to get acquainted with books, it is important for adults around them to get acquainted with books.
In Minami Ward, all generations and people of various cultural backgrounds will be able to enjoy reading.
Major Initiatives
1 Infants
Initiatives utilizing infant health checkups, etc.
We will convey the importance of children's songs and story-telling through opportunities such as infant health checkups and talks so that reading stories to children at home can be more familiar.
2 Schools
Enhancement of school libraries through collaboration with City Library
School librarians, faculty and staff, volunteers and City Library will work together to enhance the school library so that reading can be established in the daily lives of elementary school student students.
3 Adults
Efforts to raise interest in reading activities
Mainly on reading days (23rd of every month) and reading activity month (November), exhibitions and planning projects will be held to increase opportunities for encounters with books.
4 Elderly People
Efforts to create an environment where the elderly can enjoy reading
We will work on creating an environment and opportunity for the elderly to enjoy reading activities.
5 Persons with Disabilities
Efforts to create an environment where anyone can enjoy reading
We will work to create an environment where anyone can enjoy reading so that reading opportunities will not be hindered by the presence or absence of disabilities.
6 Multicultural
Reading efforts for inhabitants of a ward whose native language is a foreign language
In cooperation with multicultural coexistence lounges, etc., we will enhance multilingual materials and support reading activities in various languages and various cultural environments.
In Yokohama-shi, "the regulations about promotion of reading activity of Yokohama citizen" came into effect on April 1, 2014. Based on these ordinances, Minami Ward established the "Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Target" in fiscal 2014.
Five years have passed since the formulation, and the Second Yokohama Citizen Reading Activity Promotion Plan was newly formulated in fiscal 2019, the Minami Ward also reviewed its goals and revised them as the Second Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Goals.
We will promote our goals so that all inhabitants of a ward can perform substantial reading activities.
Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Goals (established in 2014)
Opinions were raised on the Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Goals (draft) from September 22, 2014 to October 17, 2014.
In addition, based on the opinions received, we revised the Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Target (draft) and formulated the Minami Ward People's Reading Activity Promotion Target.
