Registration (issue of library card)
Person who can register
- Person who lives, commutes, or goes to school in Yokohama city
- People living in Kamakura, Kawasaki, Zushi, Fujisawa, Yamato, Yokosuka, and Machida
Registration and lending are free of charge.
The Yokohama City Library has a total of 18 buildings, one in the first ward.
Library cards can be used at all libraries in the city. When registering, please submit the "application form for a library card" to the registration counter along with your identification documents (resident card, student ID card, etc.). We will issue a library card on the spot.
You can also register online from the library homepage. In that case, I will not give you the card. Please display your digital library card on your smartphone, etc.
Library cards cannot be lent to others. The expiration date is 5 years. At the time of registration renewal, we will check the registration details.
Lending
You can borrow up to 10 books per person for 14 opening days.
Please bring your library card and books to circulation desk. After the loan procedure, you will receive a receipt with the library card number, the number of the book you are borrowing, and the return deadline.
If you forget your library card, you will not be able to borrow books.
Books with the label "Inside the building" and the latest issue of magazines cannot be borrowed. Please use it in the museum.
You can extend the loan only once. If the reservation is made or the return is delayed, the loan cannot be extended.

Return
Books borrowed from Yokohama City Library can be returned to any City Library. Please return only books to return counter. Please don't return it directly to the bookshelf. You don't need a library card or receipt.
When the library is closed, please return only books to book return box. book return box is not available during the year-end and New Year holidays.
If you cannot return the borrowed book for a long time, you may not be able to borrow and apply for reservations.
Search
All books from Yokohama City Library can be searched from the user search machine or library website.
The user search machine can be used on both the keyboard and the screen touch panel. If you don't know, please ask at the counter.
Reservation
If you do not have the books you want to read on the bookshelf, you can make a reservation (up to 6 books per person).

Other books in Yokohama City Library can be borrowed from nearby Yokohama City Library. Reservations can be made from the counter, user search machine, and library website. Password registration is required in advance when making a reservation from the user search machine or library homepage.

If you have registered your e-mail address, you will be notified by e-mail when the book you booked is ready. If you can't borrow it, the library will contact you.
From the day when it is confirmed that the book you booked is ready, we will reserve 7 opening days.
You can also borrow books from Kanagawa Pref.Library, etc.
E-book service
You can borrow and return e-books using a PC, smartphone, or tablet connected to the Internet.
It is available to those who live in Yokohama, commute to school, and have a valid library card from Yokohama City Library.
You can borrow up to 2 points for 14 days. When the return deadline comes, it will be returned automatically.
If you do not finish reading in 14 days, you can extend the loan period only once if you have not made a reservation.
If the book you want to read is on loan, you can make reservations up to 2 points.
Public wireless LAN and Internet browsing service
Public wireless LAN services are available in the entire City Library building.
Email authentication or SNS authentication may be required.
In addition, we have installed PCs in each library that can browse the Internet.
Please apply at the counter.
Copy
The copier is coin-operated. 10 yen per black and white copy. The color copy is 50 yen per sheet for B5, B4 and A4, and 80 yen for A3.
Reference
This service uses library materials to help you find research, materials and information. Please ask at the counter.
Others
Books and magazines can be borrowed by mail for those who have physical and mental disabilities and have difficulty visiting the library. Please register at Chuo-toshokan.

Request from the Library
You cannot eat, drink or smoke in the library. However, it is possible to hydrate in a sealable container with a lid (plastic bottle, water bottle, etc.).
In the library, do not disturb other users (such as speaking loudly).
Please handle books in the library carefully.
If the book is lost or soiled, you will be compensated.
