According to "Kohoku Ward History" (published by the Kohoku Ward Local History Edition Publishing Committee, published in 1986), Kikuna set up a ward office here at the intersection of the Yokohama Line and the Toyoko Line to be called "KikuKohoku Ward" because it was located in the northern part of the port city Yokohama."
