Prevention of Elder Abuse

Last Updated March 7, 2019

In April 2006, the Law Concerning the Prevention of Elder Abuse and Support for Elderly Caregivers (hereinafter referred to as the Elderly Abuse Prevention Law) was enacted. State and local governments are required to prevent abuse of the elderly, report when abuse is found, and to carry out the necessary awareness-raising activities to protect the abused elderly. Kohoku Ward has established the Kohoku Ward Elderly Abuse Prevention Liaison Committee to create networks with government and related organizations.

For community development no abuse...

The Elderly Abuse Prevention Law stipulates that a person who notices abuse are obliged to report to municipalities. If you feel that urgent response is needed, such as the danger of the life of the elderly, please consult with the ward Health and Welfare Center or your local Regional Comprehensive Support Center (Community Care Plaza). Elderly people who are abused can also consult directly. In addition, the confidentiality of the report will be kept.

Watching in the area

If you find abuse, early reporting will prevent the situation from becoming more serious. It is also important to make good use of social services and local networks so that caregivers (caregivers) are not too burdensome.

In order to prevent abuse of the elderly, it is important that the local people care for and the elderly living alone, and not to be isolated from the community.

We exchange greetings such as voice calls in daily life (Hello), cheerfulness by voice such as when there is no spirit when we met, whether newspapers are accumulated, or not newspapers have accumulated, or if it becomes night There are things that can be done only because it is a familiar neighborhood.

※What is Elder Abuse?

Care for the elderly is more difficult than expected for caregivers. If the caregiver's mental and physical fatigue accumulates, there is no person to consult or if he does his best care alone, the caregiver himself will seriously hurt the mind and body of the elderly even if he intends to take care of it. May be.
