Prevention of elderly abuse

Last Updated March 7, 2019

In April 2006, the "Act on the Prevention of Elder Abuse and Support for Elderly Caregivers (hereinafter referred to as the Elderly Abuse Prevention Law)" was enforced. State and local governments are required to prevent abuse of the elderly, to report when abuse is found, and to carry out the necessary enlightenment activities to protect the abused elderly. Kohoku Ward has established a liaison meeting for the prevention of abuse of the elderly in Kohoku Ward to create networks with administrative and related organizations.

For community development, where abuse does not occur ...

The Elderly Abuse Prevention Law stipulates that anyone who notices abuse is obliged to report to the municipality. If you feel that urgent action is necessary, such as the dangers of life for the elderly, please consult with the Health and Welfare Center Ward or your local Regional Comprehensive Support Center (Community Care Plaza). Elderly people who are abused can also consult directly. The confidentiality of the report will be kept.

Watching in the Community

If you find abuse, reporting early will prevent the situation from becoming more serious. It is also important to make good use of social services and local networks to ensure that caregivers (caregivers) are not overburdened.

In order to prevent abuse of the elderly, it is important not to isolate from the community by gently watching the home where the local people care and the elderly living alone.

Exchange greetings such as voice calls in daily life (Hello), cheerfulness by voice such as when you do not have energy when you meet, such as when the newspaper is not accumulated, whether the light is on when it becomes night etc. There are things that can only be done because it is a nearby neighborhood, such as watching over.

※What is Elder Abuse?
