History of Kanazawa

This page introduces the history of Kanazawa Ward.
What kind of place is Kanazawa Ward? I've heard "Kanazawa Hakkei", but I don't know much ... I'm going to go around Kanazawa's history in two types, one for children and one for adults.

Collaboration with Kanagawa Prefectural Kanazawabunko

In March 2013, Kanagawa Prefectural Kanazawabunko and City of Yokohama, Kanazawa Ward signed an agreement to promote the spread of history and culture.
We are promoting initiatives to make many people aware of the history of Kanazawa, such as holding history lectures for Kanazawa residents.

We carry out old experience "visit history class"! <Collaboration of Yokohama City History Museum>

Since fiscal 2015, we have been conducting “visit history classes” for third-year elementary school students in Kanazawa Ward.
The purpose of this project is to bring folk materials such as living tools that have actually been used in the lives of the people of Kanazawa Ward to elementary schools from the Edo period to the early Showa period, and to learn how to use them, to create opportunities for children to think about the old days of the community and foster awareness of theKanazawa Ward.
Through this experience, what kind of life did grandpa and grandma live when they were children? How was electrical appliances used in times when electricity was not as much now? Have interest in the old days of the area, such as having them deepen their attachment to the area.
This project is realized by the conclusion of a history promotion agreement between the Yokohama City Hometown History Foundation and the Yokohama City Museum of History and the Kanazawa Ward in March 2015.

Kanazawa Past and Present Map <Reprint>

About "Kanazawa Past and Present Map" (from the leaflet)
Kanazawa Ward is a beautiful land blessed with historical nature. During the Kamakura period, Shomei-ji Temple and Kanazawabunko were built, and during the Edo period there were not many tourists from Minomi Yuzan, the first prime minister, Hirobumi Ito, and the painter Kawai Gyodo.
However, with the post-war industrial development and population increase, large-scale landfills were carried out for the development of industrial areas and residential lands, and the former location was now sea, mountains, or Tando. Was.
In 1997, Kanazawa Town Map was created in collaboration with people living in Kanazawa Ward, teachers and students from Yokohama City University, and staff from the Kanazawa Ward Office to make the most of the beauty and richness of Kanazawa at a glance and to create even more wonderful Kanazawa.

Created the first edition in 1997, reprinted in 2012. Currently, only the data is available. ~

<Note>
・Please note that the position of each boundary line, such as the old terrain, has considerable errors. In particular, the old coastline of the sea part has no survey data and is an imaginary map estimated from pictorial maps.
・For the old road, only those that seemed to be the main at that time were described, and small paths were omitted. In addition, there is a certain degree of error in the position.
・Landfill, residential land development range and construction next year are approximate guides.
・Cultural property storage areas include those that seem to have already been destroyed. Spraying ground indicates that pottery etc. is spraying (it was).
・Each point is mainly described on-site confirmation, but includes those with no traces at present and estimated positions.

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of Shintaro Ohashi's birth, local volunteers set up a villa monument!

Kanazawa Ward has developed a history promotion focusing on Shintaro Ohashi, who has made great achievements in Kanazawa and celebrated his 150th anniversary in 2013, with the aim of making Kanazawa Ward more proud and attached.

In response to these efforts, many inhabitants of the ward were interested in the history of the area, and in the area where the Shintaro Ohashi villa was located (housing complex Nishishiba), a monument was erected with the donation of volunteers. In response to this desire, the Kanazawa Ward Office has installed a sign next to the monument to introduce Shintaro Ohashi and the ruins of the villa.

In addition, in response to the construction of the Shintaro Ohashi Villa Ruins Monument, a local volunteer-sponsored premiere was held in April 2014 at Kanazawacho Daini Park (184-132 Kanazawacho).
