Greetings from Chairperson

　Hello. This is Mr. SUZUKI Taro, Chairman of the Yokohama City Council. He was elected as the 54th Chair of Yokohama City Council at the City Counsil plenary session on May 20, 2024.
　Thank you very much for your visit to our website.

　More than a year has passed since the new coronavirus infection shifted to Class 5 infectious diseases. I think that there are many people who have finally come into contact with people and realize the city is very crowded.
　On the other hand, Yokohama City, a basic municipal government where the largest number of people live in Japan, it is expected that the population will decline in the future, and that the working-age population will decline and the birthrate and aging population will continue to decline. Under such circumstances, it is necessary to halt population decline and promote sustainable development of Yokohama by stopping population decline and creating a virtuous cycle of the economy through the further accumulation of people and businesses. To that end, we must balance the promotion of various measures such as social welfare, child-rearing support, revitalization of the local economy, acceleration of DX, disaster prevention and reduce disaster damage.
　In addition, as important initiatives for the further development of the city, the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) was held in 2025 (7) and GREEN × EXPO 2027 in Yokohama. It is necessary to make further efforts to foster this momentum.

　The local council, together with the mayor, is in a position to play a part in the dual representation system. We repeat discussion with members of the Diet carefully and want to work on solution of various issues.
　In order to conduct high-quality discussions, Yokohama City Council values dialogue more than ever before, Yokohama City Council takes the voices and suggestions of many people related to Yokohama City, including citizens, as a voting body.

　In addition, in order to respond to the voices of citizens, of course, we will not only fulfill the monitoring and evaluation function for the administration, but also fully demonstrate the policy planning function of the council, and with the government, realize rich civil life and local revitalization I want to do it.
　We will also promote DX with regard to the operation of City Counsil. Although Yokohama City Council's DX initiatives are gradually becoming more popular, they are slow compared to social trends, and there is much room for efforts.
　I would like to show you the stance of advancing the efforts of Congress at an accelerating pace and taking the initiative in promoting DX.

　As Chairman of the Yokohama City Council, which has a long history and tradition, we will do our utmost to ensure fair and smooth operation of parliament. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
