Knowing a disaster

The horror of the Great East Japan Earthquake

Fire
Fires caused by earthquakes

Japan is a country with a lot of earthquakes. In Yokohama, it is said that large earthquakes are likely to occur. I don't know when an earthquake will occur. Be prepared for an earthquake on a daily basis.

  • When a big earthquake occurs?

The building is broken or a fire broke out. The cliff collapses or tsunami occurs.

Estimated seismic intensity shaking (from the Japan Meteorological Agency Explanation Table)
Seismic intensity 1Some people who are indoors feel a little bit.
Seismic intensity 2Hanging objects such as electric lamps shake slightly
Seismic intensity 3Most of the people indoors feel shaking.
Seismic intensity 4A poorly sitting figurine may fall.
Seismic intensity 5 LowHangings can shake violently, causing tableware on shelves to fall.
Seismic intensity 5 or moreUnfixed furniture may fall.
Seismic intensity 6Most of the unfixed furniture may be moved and the door may not open.
Seismic intensity 6 or moreThe window glass is damaged, and many of the unfixed furniture will fall.
Seismic intensity 7Most of the unfixed furniture may fall and fly.

A dangerous place
Nearby block walls and vending machines

  • What should I do when a big earthquake strikes?

Wait for the shaking to stop away from dangerous places, such as block walls or near vending machines.

tsunami
Evacuation from tsunami

  • How should I evacuate from tsunami?

The tsunami is attacked by the shaking of the earthquake. Evacuate to a higher place sooner or higher.

The horror of storm and flood damage

In recent years, heavy rains and storms caused by typhoons have occurred all over Japan. Be prepared for heavy rain and storms on a daily basis to reduce damage.

  • What happens during heavy rains or storms caused by typhoons?

Water overflows from the river and the house is soaked in the water. Heavy rain causes cliffs to collapse, and storms blow things and roofs of houses.

  • What should I do when a typhoon comes?

Take the following evacuation actions according to the surrounding situation.

Evacuate in the horizontal direction
Horizontal evacuation (evacuation)

Evacuation to a safe place such as evacuation sites such as a designated emergency evacuation sites, a nearby hill, or a relative's house outside the landslide warning area

Evacuate vertically
Vertical evacuation

Evacuate to the second floor or higher of a sturdy building or a nearby high building

Evacuate to the other side of the slope
Indoor evacuation (on the other side of the slope)

Evacuate to a safe place in the building if it is dangerous to evacuate outdoors, such as at night or when danger is imminent.

Create a My Timeline as a precautionary preparation for storms and floods.
My Timeline is your own evacuation action plan organized in chronological order according to each person's family structure and living environment.
