How to protect yourself

If an earthquake occurs, don't panic. Please act calmly. Please take the evacuation actions that were right there. It is essential to protect yourself by yourself.

When you are at home

  • Protect your head with cushions, futons, pillows, and other nearby objects
  • Hiding under a strong desk
  • Be careful not to get injured by broken glass.
  • Don't rush out, open doors and windows to secure an exit

When you are in a department store or supermarket

  • Be careful not to fall on display shelves or fall products, and lean on the pillars and walls
  • Use clothing, baggage and shopping baskets to protect your head.

When you are at work

  • Stay away from windows, lockers, and bookshelves, and hide under a desk or work table

  • The basement is said to be relatively safe during an earthquake, so stay close to pillars and walls and wait for the shaking to subside.
  • Normal lights are turned on after a while, so you don't have to worry about power outages.
  • If a fire breaks out, hold your mouth and nose with a handkerchief, lower your body, and act calmly according to the instructions of the staff.
  • If there is a risk of tsunami, move to the ground immediately following the guidance of the staff when the shaking has subsided.

  • Behave according to the instructions of the crew

  • Stay away from vending machines, block walls, telephone poles, and other easily fallable items
  • Protect your head with a bag or the like and stay away from buildings where there is a danger of falling objects such as signboards and outer walls.
  • Never approach hanging wires or gas leaking areas
  • Keep away from the roads where liquefaction and cracks.

  • Keep away from mountains and cliffs, as they may cause landslides due to aftershocks.
