Gourtto STORY (Autumn 2024 issue)
Last Updated October 7, 2024
The "Work Station" introduces people who work on subways and buses.
This series focuses on the backside of municipal transportation, which is hard to know in daily life. We will deliver interviews that did not fit in the magazine as a web-only article! This is an interview with A, B, and C who joined Transportation Bureau between 2013 and 2014 and worked at the Transportation Bureau Commander Center.
A job that can't fail. Turn the pressure into rewarding
When I stepped into it, the general command center was a place where tension was felt. Mr. A, Mr. B, and Mr. C were interviewed today. I was just assigned here in March 2024, but the director of the general command center presses the drummer saying, "I'm three of the best people."
From the left, Mr. A, Mr. B, Mr. C. He was assigned to the General Commander's Office in March 2024, and started full-scale operations in April. I work as a colleague
The main in charge of the three people is called "information commander." Mr B explained the work like this.
"The main task is to send operation information to customers and station staff. Speaking of places that are easy to see, we send and display operation information such as "normal operation" or "we accept transfer transportation on other company lines" to digital signage at the ticket gate of the station."
The General Command Center consists of three departments: Transport Commander, Information Commander, and Electric Commander. It is said that the operation information of each train, electrical equipment, and the status of each municipal subway station are all gathered here and managed centrally.
When there is a problem such as train delay or transfer transportation, it is important to transmit information accurately and quickly. If you send ambiguous information at least once, it could cause confusion for staff and customers on site. Mr. B says, "I can't fail" and continues this way.
"I feel the pressure. But when I return home, I have a sense of accomplishment. We, the general commander, do not have the opportunity to meet our customers. However, when I was able to send accurate information and support the staff working at the forefront site, "Today, it was transmitted properly." I feel the connection with the customer and I'm on my way home."
In order to collect information, it is essential to check the official website and the Japan Meteorological Agency's Web information. We are making special efforts to prevent misdelivery, such as double-checking information sent from the general command center.
After entering Transportation Bureau, they started their career as station staff, and then A and B worked as Green Line drivers and C worked as blue line drivers. That's why the words "I was saved by receiving this information" from station staff and drivers working at the forefront are encouraging.
So why did you become Transportation Bureau? First of all, Mr. B answered. "Isn't it because my hometown was Yokohama and I liked vehicles? It was attractive to be able to contribute to the local people as station staff and driver." Next, Mr. C spoke with shyness.
"It's a big thing that I used a municipal bus to school. When I was sleeping in a school uniform, the bus crew woke me, "Hell, I have to get off" and I didn't get late.……。 Transportation Bureau had a good image."
Mr. A, like Mr. C, was familiar with Transportation Bureau. Mr. A's father was also a driver of the municipal subway. I've seen my father working as a driver since I was a child.
Mr. A, whose father was a driver of the municipal subway. It is said that his father still serves as an assistant.
"It doesn't matter whether newcomers or seniors. Because it's a team."
Even so, they had the image of a "high hurdle workplace" for the general command office, and were worried. But the anxiety was soon wiped away.
There are 39 staff members at the General Command Center, 39 of whom work once every three days on a 24-hour shift. Because they have a meal and a nap together, their unity is strong. Shortly after being assigned, Mr. A's words from senior staff left an impression.
"Ask anything you don't understand, regardless of whether you are newcomers or seniors. I was reassured to say that this is because it works as a team. Even though he was just assigned and couldn't do anything, he said, "I'm already a friend." I was so happy that I was told that."
There are many accidents that require prompt response, such as train delays, electrical equipment problems, and customer rescue during work. I am surprised that only a dozen or more employees work every day. Mr. A is keen to say, "I want to be able to work with such seniors as soon as possible."
Mr. B says at the general command office, "I had the image of a strict workplace." But now, I say that seniors are very careful and easy to work.
I want to be an adult who can be proud of my child.
"Do you have any goals or aspirations for your work?" Each answer to this question has conveyed the personality of the three, such as humility and responsibility. First of all, Mr. A told me.
"I don't want to be a handy. As I said earlier, I want to be recognized as soon as possible as a member of the people who work here. I want to have the consciousness of challenging and learning everything without bending."
Mr. B also repeats words to connect to it.
"I want to be able to work with peace of mind because I'm with this person today." I would like to acquire knowledge and experience every day to support Transportation Bureau."
And Mr. C. Mr. C also spoke with his thoughts as a father with a two-year-old child.
"I want my child to be an adult who can be proud of my friends, saying 'Dad works in Transportation Bureau'. Transportation Bureau's management philosophy is "City buses and subways that carry trust with heart." The bus crew who waked me up during my school days brought me trust to me as per this message. As I felt at the time, I work while thinking about what I can do, aiming for citizens to think that municipal transportation is a place where people can feel safe, secure and gentle. "
Mr. C, who says that he wants to connect such a thing, taking the example of a bus crew member who once raised himself gently.
"I want to contribute to the next generation so that they want to work here," and the three brightly interviewed, "Let's work together!" It turned out that the director pressed the taiko drummer to them, "three of the best."
