We talked a lot about the approach to the child-raising generation in Yokohama City and the child-raising episode of Mr. Tanaka! (Information is as of August 26, 2024)

Two-shot of Rie Tanaka and Mayor

The balance between "convenience" and "comfort" is the best. 1st place for the 7th consecutive year in the ranking of cities to live!

  • Progress
──Mr. Tanaka has lived in Yokohama for nine years. What kind of image do you have in Yokohama?

The state of Rie Tanaka during the conversation

  • Rie Tanaka ("Tanaka")
When I entered university, I started living in Yokohama City, but since my hometown is Wakayama Prefecture, I was thrilled to live in the city at first (laughs). But I was relieved in an environment where there was a lot of greenery and livable. Also, when I was in elementary school, the All Japan Junior Tournament (All Japan Junior Gymnastics Championships) was held at Yokohama Culture Gymnasium (now Yokohama BUNTAI) in summer, so I remember the memories of playing there. It's still my favorite city.
  • Mayor Yamanaka (hereinafter "Mayor")
Yokohama is close to the city and the sea, and the city and greenery, and the sky is very large no matter where you are. Although it is a big city, it is characterized by a lot of nature and many pleasant places. It is said that there is a balance between convenience and comfort.
  • Tanaka
That's right. You can relax just by visiting. In 2021, we opened the Tanaka Gymnastics Club in Totsuka Ward with our brother. And in 2022 and the following year, I participated in the Yokohama Marathon as a support guest, and Yokohama has a long connection. Recently, on holidays, I sometimes come to a hotel in Yokohama with my family and feel like traveling. I also like the time to take a walk around the hotel while watching the sea.
  • Mayor
About 5 kilometers along the sea from Rinko Park (Seaside Park) in Minato Mirai 21 to Akarengasoko, Osanbashi and Yamashita Park are often featured in media and social media, but I think it is a rare place in the world where you can feel the beautiful waterside space and urban areas are close.
If you look at the suburbs, there are so many parks! This is a major feature of Yokohama. In addition, only Yokohama City in Japan has three municipal zoos. If you have small children, nearby parks and zoos are important.

Passenger ships seen from the park

  • Tanaka
It's important! My child is a one-year-old boy and a first-year elementary school girl, but I value playing outside on a daily basis. In a beautiful and safe park, you can play with peace of mind.
  • Mayor
There are about 2,700 parks in Yokohama, and more than 90% of the parks have volunteer groups called "Park Protection Association", and local residents manage cleaning and flower beds. I am. Yokohama is the only big city with so many parks, and it is unique to Yokohama that the formation rate of the park protection society exceeds 90%. It is thanks to the local people that the park in Yokohama is always a beautiful and pleasant space, and that kind of "citizen power" is one of Yokohama's prides.
  • Tanaka
It's wonderful that the local people are watching over so that the children can play with peace of mind.

medical expenses free for junior high school students. Uninterrupted support from pregnancy and childbirth to school age!

  • Progress
──Yokohama City has an attractive environment. In the private survey "Landing of Towns to Live", it was ranked first for the seventh consecutive year. Although it was ranked first in all generations, the number of child-rearing households in particular increased significantly to 33% compared to last year.
  • Mayor
I feel that what we have been working on has been positively accepted. In Yokohama City, all children from August 2023 to the third grade of junior high school.Medical expenses are freeI did it. Since April 2026, it has been desired for many years.Everyone in junior high school school lunch (outside site)Will begin. We are currently holding tastings for parents at each school for school lunch, and many parents have responded to school lunch that they had a good impression.

Mayor to talk with junior high school students who eat school lunch

Junior high school school lunch

  • Tanaka
If you are raising children, you don't have enough room.……I sometimes scold my child with my own emotions and reflect on it.……。 That's why time is really important, and I think that school lunch is offered at junior high schools because there is no time to make lunch boxes, so I think it is really a great support. I agree very much.
  • Mayor
Especially when Tanaka's children, from preschoolers to elementary school students tend to have no room at all. Therefore, Yokohama City has launched a new Oyako More Smile Package, which aims to provide continuous support from pregnancy and childbirth to school age.
  • Tanaka
I'm grateful that I've always had support during pregnancy! It's an important preparation period to become a parent during pregnancy. As was the case with me, after giving birth, my first experience feels lonely and anxious, and I can't afford it. However, just with the support of the government, I think we can feel relieved and have a sense of comfort in our hearts.

A maximum of 90,000 yen subsidy is provided. Pregnant women's medical examination fee is also increased by 50,000 yen. With the first comprehensive application in Japan, the child care procedure is completed with one smartphone!

Independent subsidies for childbirth expenses and subsidies for prenatal checkups

  • Mayor
First, for the first time in a government-designated cityOriginal subsidy for childbirth expensesI've started it. For those who gave birth on or after April 1, 2024, a maximum of 90,000 yen will be subsidized in addition to the national lump-sum childcare lump sum of 500,000 yen. The amount of 590,000 yen is an amount that can cover 100% of the basic cost at public hospitals. In addition, from this fiscal year, we will provide support for pregnancy and childbirth.Subsidies for medical examinations for pregnant womenWe have expanded our business. 50,000 yen will be added to the previous subsidy (82,700 yen), but the subsidy for pregnant women's medical examination in Yokohama City has been the highest level in government-designated cities.
  • Tanaka
Wow, can you help me so much? I wish I had a baby in Yokohama (laughs).
  • Mayor
Then, during child care, you have to take a break from work and go to the ward office for various procedures, so in July, the nation's first comprehensive child care support application "Pamatoko (outside site)"We have released the web version so that you can go through Child Allowance and Medical Certificate for infant online without having to go to the ward office. I often ask, "What do you do to verify your identity?", But I use my number card to make it online. You can also apply for the childbirth expenses subsidy I mentioned earlier with this app.
It is also equipped with the function of the Maternal and Child Health Handbook so that you can manage your child's growth record and how many times Vaccinations vaccinations will be given. The app version is scheduled to be released at the end of September. We would like to "return time" with this digital power to busy child-rearing generations.

Get the right information for you

(Left) Equipped with the function of the Maternal and Child Health Handbook / (Right) Manage Vaccinations with a smartphone!

  • Tanaka
This is helpful! Oh! I have to write Vaccinations's history on the documents when I go on to school. So it's hard to forget when and what was inoculated.
  • Mayor
Some vaccines are hit twice or three times, and management is difficult. "Pamatoko" has various other functions, combining the GPS function with Google Maps and the information of the city, when you go out with your child, diaper changing space, children's toilets, childcare services We made it easy to find places.
Also, in Yokohama, various events are held all year round, from community-based events such as summer festivals to large-scale events. For example, in July alone, more than 5,000 events are being held in Yokohama City. Therefore, we unified them as information so that event information tailored to the age and interests of the child can be searched and delivered.
  • Tanaka
Oh, amazing……。 There are many times when you don't know where to search for event information held in the area, so if you have "Pamatoko", you can easily search and make a plan to go out. Local events can also be a good opportunity because they can connect with local people who usually don't have much contact.

You don't need to take home paper diapers! Take measures to prevent "small 1 wall" by providing lunch during the summer vacation

  • Mayor
By the way, have you ever struggled with paper diapers? In my own experience, when my child was attending a nursery school, I noticed at night that there was little stock of paper diapers to bring to the nursery school, and when I rushed to a drugstore or convenience store, or when I was fluttering in the morning I had to write my name on the diaper and I was impatient.……。

The state of the mayor during the talk

  • Tanaka
I have a diaper problem! You have to write your name on each one to give it to the nursery school. This is surprisingly troublesome, isn't it?……。 When I'm tired from work, I look up with my husband and feel like "Which is the name written on a diaper?" (laughs).
  • Mayor
Some nursery schools have to take used diapers home. Used diapers are heavy (laughs). With the desire to lighten luggage when picking up and dropping out such nursery schools, Yokohama City has begun an initiative called “Momotsu Light Nursery School”. This is an initiative to reduce the burden of taking home by allowing parents to purchase disposable diapers and dietary aprons at nursery schools using subsques. Approximately 1,200 facilities in the city, the largest in Japan, are targeted, and the number of nursery schools that introduce services is increasing steadily. In addition, used diapers have been subsidized for disposal costs in the garden so that parents do not have to take them home.
  • Tanaka
If you have a lot of luggage, it is difficult to prepare and carry it when picking up and dropping off, so it is wonderful with measures that are friendly to dads and moms from anything to anything. With this kind of support, I think there will be a lot of time and feelings.

The state of Rie Tanaka and the mayor during the talk

  • Mayor
When your child becomes an elementary school student, you will need to make a lunch box during long vacations such as summer vacation when school lunch disappears. As a typical example of the so-called “small one wall,” a questionnaire survey conducted by Yokohama City for parents showed that 93% of the needs for lunch service during the long vacation period. In order to respond to such voices, from this summer vacation, all the cities of Yokohama have been selected.Lunch will be provided at elementary school student after school.I've started it. Order payment is possible on a smartphone, 400 yen per meal. I would like to help resolve the problem of lunch boxes during the long vacation period.
  • Tanaka
"Small 1 wall" is really real. My daughter has just entered elementary school this spring and is working hard while being puzzled by changes in the environment. Watching the situation as a parent is more difficult than expected, and sometimes I am older than my one-year-old son, so I feel the difficulty of facing each and every one. Every day, I'm doing my best to raise children, so it would be great if I had a service to provide lunch!

I was impressed by the efforts of Yokohama City……。 Child-rearing generation, a town that is friendly to children!

Two-shot of Rie Tanaka and Mayor

  • Tanaka
This time, I was impressed to learn that Yokohama City supports the child-rearing generation from various directions. And I wanted to live again! If you do your best during childcare, your mind and body may be broken. But Yokohama City is a city that is kind to the child-rearing generation and children, and feels like "I'm not alone" because I feel the connection of the community. And I once again realized that it was a special city where you can refresh not only by living but also by visiting.
  • Mayor
I'm very happy to hear that. It is the children who will lead the next generation who support the town. We will continue to respond to everyone's voice with a sense of speed so that many people can realize "Yokohama, a town that has raised children" and think "I'm glad I raised children in Yokohama, I want to raise children in Yokohama". think.
  • Tanaka
Thank you very much for sharing a lot of valuable stories. I look forward to seeing you in the future.
