I'm getting the power of hot and warm support!

  • Progress
──Congratulations on winning the Olympic Games on your own for the first time in 48 years at last year's World Cup.
  • Yuki Kawamura (hereinafter "Kawamura")
Thank you very much. I was nervous, but I came to every game with confidence that I could definitely win. There were some games that felt a difference from the world's top players, so now I'm challenging the B-League game with the desire to be better and stronger.
  • Mayor Yamanaka (hereinafter "Mayor")
It was a great success. I guess the citizens of Yokohama also gained great courage and energy in Kawamura's appearance.
  • Progress
──What kind of image do you have in Yokohama?
  • Kawamura
Before coming to Yokohama, it was a big city, so I had the image of being a very urban area, but when I lived, I felt that the sea was beautiful and nature was rich in even though it was a city. The citizens of Yokohama are very warm, especially the Becolbooster (fans) are grateful for their support at all times.

The state of Kawamura during the conversation

  • Mayor
Yokohama is a blessed city with 13 top sports teams, including basketball, baseball, soccer, rugby, etc. I want to do it. Enjoying sports is good for your health, and you can connect across generations in the community. I want to enrich the daily lives of citizens, and I would be glad if players could think that it is an environment where sports can be easily played. .

My thoughts on basketball

  • Progress
──Could you tell me how you started playing basketball?
  • Kawamura
I started at the age of six because of my father, who was a basketball player. There was also a ring in my home garden, so it was one of the most familiar games since I was little. There were times when I felt that the practice was tight and I couldn't play as I wanted, but I never wanted to stop or hated it. I love basketball and I've spent every day trying to get better.
  • Progress
──Please tell us your dreams and goals in continuing basketball, as well as the background you decided to become a professional.
  • Kawamura
Being on the world stage as a point guard in Japan was a major goal. I was worried when I left college and turned to a professional, but it is important mentally to be able to concentrate on basketball, and it is also important to spend time on physical care and training, I decided to improve my play and condition.
  • Progress
──What do you want to convey to the children who admire Kawamura?
  • Kawamura
When I was a child, I enjoyed basketball anyway, regardless of winning or losing. I think I've been able to continue because I liked it now and enjoyed it. That's why I want children to continue doing what they like and what they feel fun.
  • Mayor
The success of the Japan National Team this time was exactly how Japan's best speed star flew to the world from Yokohama, but now Kawamura has been created through such thoughts and efforts. I feel. Kawamura's words seem to give power to children who are working hard toward their dreams and goals.

To play an active role in the world stage

  • Progress
──I think there are opportunities to interact with people from various countries in the activities of the team and the Japanese national team, but do you have anything you do on a daily basis?
  • Kawamura
There are many ways of thinking in the world, and what I thought was natural may not be the case overseas, so I always try to understand culture and way of thinking and respect each other. To do so, words are very important. I do my best to communicate with my foreign teammates in English, and they also try to learn Japanese, and words such as "Go for it" and "Thank you" are often used.
  • Mayor
I also have experience working in the United States, so I would like to develop people who can play an active role in the world from Yokohama. In order to be able to understand and respect the diverse cultures, values, and ways of thinking around the world, it is very important to have the opportunity to touch such things while you are young. English education is very important as a tool for that.
  • Progress
──The other day, "Yokohama English Quest", an event called "Yokohama English Quest", where multinational English speakers and junior high school students interact in English.
  • Mayor
It was very impressive to see about 100 children participating and communicating using English and gestures. By actually experiencing it, it will be an opportunity to become interested in overseas. It's important to create such opportunities. In addition, we carry out the "Yokohama Children's International Peace Program" as part of our international understanding education, and 40,000 children participate in the speech contest every year. Among them, the children commissioned to Peace Messenger are engaged in a variety of activities, including visiting the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The state of the mayor during the talk

  • Kawamura
40,000 people are amazing! It would be a valuable experience for children to be able to go to the United Nations.
  • Mayor
That's right. The opportunity to communicate on your own is very important. In the future, I would like to create a place where enthusiasm children can come into contact with living English and present their thoughts.

Important things for building the body

  • Progress
──What are you aware of in your daily life in order to improve your condition?
  • Kawamura
I don't do anything special at all, eat three meals a day, and get well-balanced nutrition. I think it's natural and the most important thing.
  • Mayor
Food is really important for building your body. In Yokohama, we will start school lunch in junior high school in April 2026. There are many junior high school students who do their best in sports, so a dedicated dietitian is devising a menu that can take a lot of protein. When I was a junior high school student, both physically and mentally, I hope that having fun eating school lunch will serve as a source of power for energetic activities.
  • Kawamura
Exercise, sleep, eating, I think these three are very important, so I want junior high school students to move a lot, get enough nutrients, and sleep well. By the way, I try to sleep for more than 8 hours every day.
  • Mayor
8 hours! In addition to hard training, it is also important to rest your body well.

Toward the Future - Aspirations for 2024―

  • Kawamura
First of all, I would like to win the B league and make 2024 a year that is said to have been the year of Yokohama B Corsears. And I would like to do my best without wasting every day so that I can show world-class basketball so that I can play an active role as the representative of the Paris Olympics in Japan.
  • Mayor
I'm looking forward to it! In 2024, we will continue to support Kawamura and Yokohama B Corsares with all our might!
In April this year, the arena facility "Yokohama BUNTAI" will finally open. The home game of Yokohama B Corsears is also planned, and I think it will be a new attraction where you can enjoy sports watching, concerts, and large-scale events.
In addition, we are promoting initiatives to create a lively town and a special space that citizens can enjoy by utilizing public spaces. Last fall, I made the street in front of Yamashita Park a pedestrian paradise for the first time. On the day of the event, we also had a public viewing of Yokohama B Corsears, but it was a great enthusiasm.
  • Kawamura
That's nice! It's a wonderful initiative that will provide opportunities for those who can't come to the game venue or those who have passed by accident to touch basketball. Thank you very much.
  • Mayor
And we will do our best to create a town where children can work hard toward their dreams like Kawamura and everyone can live a lively and healthy life. We will work with a sense of speed so that you can further enhance the diverse attractions of Yokohama and feel that you want to live and want to continue living.
