What is the Minami Ward Sakura Project?

What is the Minami Ward Sakura Project?
This is a collective term for Minami Ward's efforts related to cherry blossoms.
Background of Initiatives
Minami Ward is a town surrounded by the Okagawa River flowing through the center of the ward and seven varied hills. In particular, the row of cherry blossom trees on the Okagawa Promenade is also a venue for the Minami Ward Cherry Blossom Festival.
The Minami Ward flower "Sakura" was established in January 2001.
And in March 2004, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Minami Ward system, the Minami Ward mascot character Minatchi, featuring cherry blossom petals. Both the flower "Sakura" and the mascot character "Minatchi" were decided by the opinions and ideas of the inhabitants of the ward.
For Minami Ward, cherry blossoms are a big presence, such as the cherry blossom trees on the Okagawa Promenade, the Flower of the Ward Sakura, and the mascot character Minatchi.

In order to let everyone know the flower "Sakura" of the ward, we decided Sakura grass and autumn cherry tree (cosmos) as flowers that we can easily get acquainted with as popular flowers. In establishment committee such as flowers of Minami Ward Ward, we selected candidate and raised inhabitants of a ward opinion in public information paper and decided in committee.
On April 8, 2001, a tree-planting ceremony was held at Maita Park to commemorate the establishment of the Minami Ward flower "Sakura".
Specific Initiatives
Based on the Minami Ward Sakura conservation Utilization Plan formulated in fiscal 2005, Minami Ward works with local residents and businesses.
