Y-PORT Business (Waste-related)

Since January 2011, Yokohama City has been engaged in international technical cooperation (Y-PORT project) through public-private partnerships utilizing Yokohama's resources and technologies.
As part of this effort, Resources and Waste Recycling Bureau is currently engaged in international technical cooperation in Da Nang, Vietnam and Metro Cebu, Philippines.

Da Nang City, Vietnam

In August 2016, the Separation Promotion Project in Da Nang was adopted as a JICA Grasssroots Technical Cooperation Project. We share know-how and experience by dispatching experts to the site. In March 2020, JICA adopted the second phase of the project, and we are working on issues that have been clarified through the implementation of the project. In addition, this business pushes forward business as approach of public-private partnership while having city company cooperate.

Background

landfill's tightness due to an increase in the amount of waste generated in Da Nang due to economic development.

Achievements

(First Phase 1)

  1. Formulation of action plans to promote 3Rs (three-Rs) in model districts
  2. Improve public awareness of garbage collection by category
  3. Building a foundation for the introduction of a recycling and waste management system

(Second Phase 2)

  1. Establishment of data collection and utilization methods for general waste management
  2. Implementation of pilot projects to strengthen collection systems in model districts
  3. Proposals for Revision of Waste Management Master Plan in Da Nang City

Metro Cebu, Philippines

City companies are developing a recycling business that sorts and crush waste plastics and manufacture alternative fuels for coal through joint field surveys with the city and the spread and demonstration projects of JICA. In May 2017, the company established a new waste plastic recycling plant with the support of the Ministry of the Environment. We will continue to make use of the company's experience and other waste issues, such as the tightness of the landfill.
