Negishi Forest Park (Naka Ward)

This is the place where Japan's first Western-style horse racing was held in 1866 by the Japan Horse Racing Club in 1880, and the racetrack, which was the largest in the East, was crowded with many people until it was closed due to the war in 1943.


After the war, it was requisitioned by the U.S. Army and used for residential areas and golf courses, but rented state-owned land partially released in 1969 free of charge and started maintenance, taking advantage of the gentle terrain, a large lawn open space It was opened in 1977 as a forest park centered on At the same time, the rest was built by the Chuo Horse Racing Memorial Park.

After that, the three buildings of the preview, the first-class horseshoe, and the second-class horseshoe, designed by JH. Morgan, left in the requisition, were demolished except for the first-class horseshoehouse with a guest room, etc. It was maintained.
It is a park that is rare in the city, and there are few facilities like facilities, and its biggest attraction is the lawn that spreads over the gentle site. Many people are relaxing on holidays when they are comfortable and sunny. In addition, the seasonal scenery of many trees is also wonderful, especially during the cherry blossom season.

At the Horse Museum of Negishi Horse Racing Memorial Park, you can see exhibits on the theme of horses, such as "History and Horse", which is gaining popularity with the pony center ponies.

At Negishi Forest Park, in order to ensure safe use, patrols such as free-range dogs are carried out by Yokohama City Animal Proper Breeding Instructors and their promotion staff.

It was certified as a modern industrial heritage site in February 2009.
