Three Cultural Resources lost in the Great Kanto Earthquake in FY2019
Last update date June 2, 2023
Held information
The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 caused tremendous damage to Yokohama. Many of the cultural resources of Yokohama that we built up until the Taisho period were also lost. In this course, we will focus on the three cultural resources lost in the earthquake, such as the Noh Theater in Iseyama Shrine, theater districts such as Isezakicho, and the art museum concept of Hara Sankei. In addition to clarifying the cultural standards of Yokohama at that time and the circumstances where it was lost, we will also introduce the steps toward reconstruction.
