Overview
Transferring ashes that have already been buried or stored to another graveyard or ossuary is called "reinterment."
For reinterment, procedures in accordance with the provisions of the "Law Concerning Cemeteries, Burials, etc. (Cemetery Law)" are required.

This is an example of reinterment of ashes from a buried or stored graveyard to a new graveyard.
1. Determination of graveyards to be newly buried and stored
I will decide where to reinterment, such as buying a new graveyard.
2. Acquisition of "Reinterment Permit Application" and receipt of "Buried Certificate"

Receive "buried certificate" from manager of present graveyards
Normally, the burial certificate is certified by the graveyard manager in the designated column of the reinterment permission application. (The style determined by the graveyard manager may be used.)

- "Cemetery use permit" may be necessary to confirm user of present graveyard.
- If the graveyard user and the applicant are different, a power of attorney or written consent created by the graveyard user is required.
- A fee may be required to issue a buried certificate. Please check with the graveyard manager.
3. Application for reinterment permit and receipt of reinterment permit

- Reinterment permission application (including "buried certificate")
- Power of Attorney or written consent of graveyard user (only when graveyard user and applicant are different)
- You may need an applicant's seal required.
How to apply
(1) When applying at the counter
We submit reinterment permission application to municipal government office where current graveyards are located (in case of Yokohama-shi, ward office Family Registry Division and submit a Reinterment Permit.

(2) When applying by mail
For information on how to apply by mail, please contact the municipal office where the current graveyard is located.

Present the reinterment permit to the manager of the current graveyard and take out the remains.

5. Buried and stored in new graveyards
We submit reinterment permit to managers such as new graveyards and can bury and store ashes.
