Registration of dogs, rabies vaccination, etc.

To keep dogs, you must protect your dog from rabies, and at the same time, you must register your dog and inoculate the rabies vaccination under the Rabies Prevention Act.

Registration and rabies vaccination

When your dog is 3 months old, you need to register your dog and get a rabies vaccination.
Registration is done once a lifetime and rabies vaccination once a year.

Procedures at veterinary hospitals (injection and registration) and pet shops (registration only) commissioned by Yokohama City

At veterinary hospitals commissioned by Yokohama City, rabies vaccination and rabies vaccination Certificates can be issued at the same time.
Unregistered dogs can be registered at the same time.
In addition, at a pet shop commissioned by Yokohama City, you can register on the spot when you buy a dog.
Please refer to the Yokohama Animal Protection Center website for animal hospitals and pet shops commissioned by Yokohama City.

If you receive a rabies vaccination at a veterinary clinic (if it is not a veterinary clinic commissioned by Yokohama City)

Please bring the rabies vaccination Certificate issued by the veterinary clinic to Environmental Sanitation Section.
Expenses (In addition to rabies vaccination costs at animal hospitals)

  • In the case of new registration: 3,550 yen (registration fee 3,000 yen + Injected vote grant fee 550 yen)
  • In the case of update: 550 yen (injected vote grant fee)

Changes in registration items

  • When the owner's name is changed
  • When the owner is changed
  • When the land of Address has changed (when moving)

You need to change the procedure. Please report it to Environmental Sanitation Section. If you move in from outside the city or change the owner, please bring the dog's license tag issued in the previous Address area. We will exchange free of charge with dog's license tag in Yokohama. If you have a microchip, please bring a copy with the microchip number. If you lose dog's license tag, you will need to pay a reissuance fee of 1,600 yen. If you cannot prove that you have registered, you may be treated as a new registration.
