Izumi Public Works Office Rivers and sewers

Rivers in Yokohama City are divided into eight water systems (main streams).
The river that flows through the Izumi Ward is the Sakaigawa River system, which flows through Totsuka Ward and Fujisawa City to the Pacific Ocean.

<First-class rivers>

• As a general rule, it is a river managed by the country.
• First-class rivers are rivers related to the national land conservation or on the national economy, especially important water systems, and are designated by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
• The Sagami River and Tsurumi River are first-class rivers in Kanagawa Prefecture. (No first-class rivers flow in Izumi Ward)

<Second-class river>

• As a general rule, it is a river managed by the prefecture.
• Rivers pertaining to water systems other than the first-class water system that has an important relationship to the public interest, and is designated by the prefectural governor.
• Within Izumi Ward, Sakaigawa, Izumi, Akuwa River and Uda River are second-class rivers.
• The Izumi River and the Akuwa River are repaired and maintained by the Yokohama City, and the Uda River is managed by Yokohama City with the delegation of management authority.

< mutatis mutandis rivers>

• It is a river managed by Yokohama City.
• Among rivers other than first-class rivers and second-class rivers, this river has been designated by the mayor of municipalities as important from the viewpoint of public nature. Based on the River Law, a part of the provisions of second-class rivers are applied mutatis mutandis, so it is called a mutatis mutandis river.
• In Izumi Ward, the Aizawa River is a mutatis mutandis river.

• The general name of a river other than a river specified by the River Law.
• In Yokohama City, it is stipulated as a general sewer in the Yokohama City Sewerage Ordinance.
