Establishment of the Election Commission

The Election Administration Committee is an administrative committee established in prefectures and municipalities based on the Local Autonomy Law in order to ensure fair and proper execution of elections. It is an executive body independent of the mayor of the municipality.

Major duties

●Execution of each election of members of the House of Representatives, members of the House of Councilors, prefectural governors, mayors, prefectural assembly members, and city council members
●Execution of the Supreme Court Judge's National Examination
●Preparation and storage of electoral lists
●Office work related to election enlightenment
●Administrative work related to direct billing
●Administrative work related to the selection of prospective judge candidates
●Administrative work related to the selection of prospective prosecutor judge candidates

The Election Commission is composed of four members elected by Congress.
The term of office is four years.
